The Elk Mound baseball team managed to get one game in last week and they made it a productive one as they blasted the Boyceville Bulldogs 13-3, bringing their overall record to 1-2 and their conference record to 1-0.
The Mounders loaded the bases in the second inning with two outs but a strikeout ended the threat. Boyceville then put three runs on the board in the third on a pair of walks, a single, a Mounder error and a ground out.
But Elk Mound broke through for eight runs with seven hits in the fourth inning. Jon Storing reached second base on an error by the Boyceville pitcher. Zach Mohr singled to center, Brandon Bohl drew a walk, Christopher Wolf banged a single to right bringing Storing in. Next, Dane Lew reached first on another Bulldog error bringing Mohr home, Trey Mohr rapped a base hit as Bohl crossed the plate and Lew scored when Cole Tyman reached on a fielder’s choice, Hunter Kohls then banged a single to left center. Storing followed with another hit to bring Tyman in and Zach Mohr smacked another single to bring Kohls home. Bohl then came up with a big blast with a double to bring Storing in, prompting the Bulldogs to pull their starting pitcher. A goundout ended the big inning with Elk Mound up 8-3.
The Mounders tacked on three more runs in the fifth when Lew reached on an infield error, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Trey Mohr. Kohls then brought Mohr in on a basehit and Zach Mohr slammed a double to plate Kohls for an 11-3 Mounder lead.
Four straight walks issued by the Bulldogs’ pitcher gave the Mounders another run in the fifth and their final run came in the seventh when Derrick Redwine drew yet another walk, moved to second on a balk, advanced to third on a passed ball and came home on a Lew single. Tyman, who took over the mound duties in the fifth inning for Bohl, proceeded to put the Bulldogs down in order to secure the win.
Zach Mohr finished 4 for 5 to lead in the hitting department while Lew, Trey Mohr and Kohls all rapped a pair of hits. Trey Mohr knocked in three runs while lead off batter Lew scored three times. Bohl earned the win, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and two walks and Tyman gave up one hit with three Ks and no walks.
