By Kelsie Hoitomt

GLENWOOD CITY – The Glenwood City High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club recently brought nine members to the state competition that was held at the Kalahari Resorts and Convention Hotel in Wisconsin Dells on March 31-April 2.

Out of the nine who competed at state, each student medaled with a silver or higher.

Ashlee Speiser and Sierra Peterson presented in the Food Innovations category and they placed the highest from the GC group with a gold.

The other high school team made up of Alyssa Jones and Catherine Schurtz, received a high silver, which is just shy of a gold as they were half a point away for their presentation on Sports Nutrition.

Another gold was brought home as well, but in the Junior Division by the duo of Spencer Peterson and Jake Wittmer for their Food Innovations presentation.

Casey Wittmer received a silver in Life Event Planning. Samantha Hurtis silvered in Illustrated Talk. Erin Drinkman silvered in Fashion Construction.

Aside from the awards ceremony, the FCCLA group listened to motivational speakers and attended various breakout sessions such as one on the harmful effects of texting and driving.

No one from Glenwood City was a candidate for the state officers election, but the group did participate in the voting process as well.
