Colfax track teams begin outdoor season

With just running events taking place due to wet grounds, the Colfax girls’ track and field team finished third in the nine team field while the small boys’ team was last out of nine teams at the St. Croix Central Invite April 10. They competed in their second outdoor meet of the season two days later at the West Salem Invite held at St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN, resulting in another third for the girls against nine other teams and the boys improved to finish eighth in an 11 team field. Top eight places were scored for team points in both meets.

St. Croix Central

Dempsy Fogarty was a double winner for the girls, taking the 200m dash at 28.19 and the 400m dash at 1:03.91. Heidi Lieffort picked up a second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 53.70 and Courtney Dressel was also second, running a time of 2:41.30 in the 800m run. A pair of fourths were claimed by both Katie Christoffel in the 100m hurdles in 18.66 and Ally Heidorn in the 200m dash at 29.41, while the 4 X 400 relay team of Heidorn, Erin Nellessen, Jezz Tweed and Megan Schleusner was sixth at 5:09. Coming in seventh was Abby Schotter in the 800m run at 2:49 and also  another relay, the 4 X 800 with Allie Yingst, Serena Secraw, Tweed and Lieffort at 13:26. Final points came from Dannielle Dachel in the 400m run at 1:08.94 and the 4 X 100 sprint relay with Schleusner, Christoffel, Bryana Buchanan and Emily Halpin at 59.33.

Noah Pretasky was a one man scoring show for the boys as he won the 200m dash in 23.64 and took third in the 100m dash at 11.43. Jeremiah Wait, finally back from a leg injury placed ninth in the 100m dash at 12.19 while Tucker Hovde claimed a couple of tenth places, in the 200m dash at 27.03 and the 400m run at 59.25.

West Salem

Four girls scored points in the discus throw for the Viking girls including Lieffort with a second place (two inches short of the winning throw), Marianne Scharlau, fifth, Halpin sixth and Lynsey Lloyd, eighth. Fogarty showed her versatility by winning the 800m run. Following are the athletes who scored points for the team and their event and time/distance:

4 X 400 relay: seventh, 5:20.21 (Schleusner, Brantner, Scharlau, Nellessen)

4 X 800 relay: second, 10:26 (Dressel, Dachel, Schotter, Fogarty)

Pretasky was the runner up in the 100 and 200m dashes and more team points came by way of Ben Kragness with a second in the discus and a third in the shot put. Top eight places in events with time/distances are as follows:

800m run: Hovde, fifth, 2:14.99

High jump: Adix, fifth, 5-02
