Vikings take it easy at Dunn County Invite

With a pair of meets coming up later in the week, Colfax girls’ track coach Ryan Krall held back several of his athletes and allowed all but one to compete in just one event at the Dunn County Invitational held April 8 in the Menomonie High School Fieldhouse. Boys’ coach Jamie Buchholz, for various reasons, had only six athletes compete in the meet. The result for both teams was a sixth place finish out of six teams.

With the top six places scoring team points, Katie Christoffel scored eight of the nine points for the girls with a third in the 50 m high hurdles at 9.3 and a fifth in the 50m low hurdles at 8.9.Emily Halpin added a point with a sixth in the shot put with a heave of 30-06.50.

“Katie continues to get better and better in the hurdles,” Krall said. “As she continues to get more aggressive over each hurdle, she will continue to grow as a hurdler.”

Ally Heidorn was seventh in the 300 m dash at 49.9, while Marianne Scharlau was also seventh in the shot put at 29-10. Jezz Tweed had the only other top 10 finish for the girls with a tenth place in the 800m run with a time 3:21. Also competing were Andrea Brantner (11th, shot put, 25-08), Bryana Buchanan (13th, 40 m dash, 6.2), Alyssa Miller (16th, 300 m, 53.6), Lynsey Lloyd (16th, shot put, 23-10),Erin Nellessen (17th, 300 m,53.6) Andrea Scharlau (20th, 300 m, 58.0), Hannah Mikesell (21st, shot put, 22-08), Megan Schleusner (21st, 40 m, 6.4), Alexis Rudi (22nd, 300 m, 58.5) and Nicole Nierenhausen (23rd, shot put, 21-00).

For the boys, points were scored by Jacob Larson with a second in the 800 m run at 2:33 and Hunter Lieffort in the pole vault was also second at 9-00. Ben Kragness took a third in the shot put with a toss of 42-01 and Isaac Lee was sixth in the 800 at 2:37. Kamdon Quast finished tenth in the pole vault at 7-00 and Tucker Hovde placed 11th in the 300 with a time of 43.7.

“We took it pretty easy as a team because of our busy meet schedule this week,” Krall said.”We are really gearing up for the West Salem Invite on Saturday. But I was happy with how our kids competed knowing we would not do well in the team scoring heading into the meet,” he added.
