At a ceremony held April 2 in the Martin Anderson gym, 26 students in grades 10-12 became new members of the National Honor Society for Colfax High School. NHS is a national organization founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and currently has over one million members throughout all 50 states. Selection is based on criteria including character, scholarship, leadership and service and CHS students must hold and maintain a grade point average of 9.25 (B plus) as well as be active in community service projects.
Serving as officers this year were President Allison Yingst, Vice President Heidi Lieffort, Treasurer Kaitlin Toycen and Secretary Schyler Manning. After current members were introduced by Whitney DeMoe, new members were introduced by Yingst, and three foreign exchange students attending the school addressed the crowd including Marija Kostic, Eunji Kim and Cheryl Zhang. The closing was presented by Georgette Wendt.
Advisors for NHS are Mr. Meade, Mr. Mosey, Mrs. Neuburg and Mrs. Steinke.
