While Penny was away, the residents and staff did play! We started off Sunday with a HUGE Celebration – Mildred Packer’s 100th Birthday Bash!! Family and friends gathered in the square to laugh and reminisce while they enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and desserts.
We rolled out Monday with devotions, readings, and exercise and tried our hand at “Wheel of Fortune” in the afternoon. The theme was “spring” words/phrases, however, flakes flew as we played.
Once again on Tuesday we did more devotions, readings, and exercise to get us ready for prize bingo and happy hour. One lucky resident took home a cute blue stuffed rabbit holding a carrot. It seemed to be the prize everyone had their eye on.
On Wednesday morning we gathered for Church and polished off the day with Beauty Boutique in the afternoon. Fresh manicures and hand massages are such a treat! Never fear, the manicures don’t hinder the residents from giving their all at evening REX class at 5:30 nightly which is highly attended by residents from all areas throughout the facility; or on Thursday morning when we rallied the volleyball. The ever talented Kathie Irwin followed volleyball. She played the piano and led an hour sing-a-long. Residents got to request their favorites. A few gospels were sung but many patriotic songs were requested and sung by heart. It was a very feel good hour followed by coffee and cookies.
We can always count on Friday to leave us ready to rest on the weekend. Rosary and gospel sing in the morning with dime bingo rounding out the day. The warmer temps were a nice surprise on the weekend along with family and friends stopping in to visit. Again a special thanks to all our entertainers and volunteers and the wonderful activity crew who were able to “wing it” while Penny was away.
That’s all for now in the land of Colfax where the men are hoping to put the shovels away and the woman are already looking for their garden gloves.
