GLENWOOD CITY – To start off the Board of Education meeting on Monday night, High School/Middle School Principal, Tim Johnson proudly announced that the Class of 2014 Valedictorian is McKenzie Kruse and the Salutatorian is Katelyn Meyers.
On the topic of students, Johnson shared that there are currently 23 students in the high school that are taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses, which is a “significant number considering the size for the school”.
In Johnson’s report, the Board also approved two, $500 scholarships to be award from the Class of 1950 fund. There will also be one, $500 scholarship awarded from the Dorothy Kuhn fund.
In the Buildings, Grounds and Transportation report, the Board approved the proposal presented regarding the replacement of the steam kettle and skillet in the kitchen. The total projected cost for purchasing, installing and electrical work is $53,841.75.
The Board also approved a change in the policies and handbooks where e-cigarettes and tobacco are mentioned.
Lastly mentioned at the meeting was a brief update on the Dupont Settlement. Superintendent Tim Emholtz said that the check for over $100,000 is not in the mail yet, but the district is getting closer to that.
