Sand Creek Chatter – 2-13-2014

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Pat Hagen, who passed away on February 6.

Postmaster Mary Mikula, declared January 31, 2014, Honorary Pat Hagen Day in Sand Creek, Wisconsin for her passion and devotion to her historic stamp and marble collections. Pat submitted a round marble stamp to Washington, D.C.

Sand Creek Arts announces a wonderful way to warm the winter with some lively bluegrass and gospel music starting Sat. Feb 15 at 7 pm. Don’t forget that regular scheduled April 5th and May 3rd jam will also be held.

Cathy LeFevre and others have enjoyed the beginning Quilting Class offered by the library and taught by Roxi Janecke. The first Saturday the class learned how to use rotary cutters, the second week they sewed the pieces together and the last class the quilters will be putting everything together and learning machine quilting. Experienced quilter Vickie Meinen commented that she has been learning a lot. If interests continue the library would like to continue to offer programs such as this quilting class.

Swanhild Rasmussen and Carol Squires were Feb. 6 coffee guests of Lois Sundby in Colfax.

Trey, Reese and Brooks Cowley of Black River Falls were guests of Grandpa Louie and Grandma Judy Reetz on Sat. Feb. 8 and Sun. Feb. 9. All had a great time together.

Jack Moerke of Chippewa Falls celebrated his second birthday on Sun. Feb. 2. at the home of his parents, Ben and Stephanie Moerke. Attending were: Grandma Pam Cavanaugh, Aunt Tracey Cowley, Reese and Trey Cowley, Grandma Judy and Grandpa Louie Reetz.

Grandma Judy Reetz stayed with 3 grandchildren in Elmwood the week of Feb 2 to Feb. 7 while daughter Jennelle and Jeff Wolf vacationed in Mexico. Aunt Jamie Bowe and Grandma Judy Reetz celebrated Addie Welch’s 15th birthday on Tues. Feb. 4th.

Catilyn Erickson, daughter of Tony and Susan Erickson of New Richmond and granddaughter of Nancy Erickson of Sand Creek and Jon Erickson of Chetek, is a goalie for her New Richmond Stars hockey team. Her team, having succeeded in winning playoffs, is headed to the State Championships in Madison next month. Her Grandpa Jon had been a goalie during his high school years in Two Harbors, MN. Catie’s big sister Bailey Erickson plays for the New Richmond girl’s high school hockey team.

Sharon Hegna and Karen Wagner were in Sand Creek visiting relatives Feb. 6, 7, and 8th.

On Feb. 7. Harlan and Lana Anderson, Sandy and Carol Anderson drove to LaCrescent, MN near LaCrosse to attend the funeral for Joyce Lathom Theobold who was their cousin and a former Sand Creek resident.

Lee Killoren and son Brody went to Aloma, Texas for Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 to visit Lee’s dad, Nick and brother Keith. They celebrated Brody’s birthday during their Texas visit.

Rocky Thompson of Minocqua arrived on Sun. Feb. 9. to visit his mother, Sue Piotrowski.

Swanee Rassmussen and Jean Hanson attended Harvestime Church in Eau Claire on Sun. Feb. 9 after which she was a dinner guest of the Karl Hanson family in Chippewa Falls to honor Madi on her birthday and Joshua Hanson birthday. Dedication of Lukas Hanson was also celebrated.
