Colfax Health and Rehab – 2-5-2014

Goodbye January, Hello February! It was a month to remember. It may have been cold and snowy outside but inside our residents were kept warm, fed well and they had many activities to keep them busy.

We have reading, exercise and devotion on Mondays and Tuesdays. These events are well attended and coffee and treats are always served. Residents who came to the Square for an activity could look through the large glass window in the Rotunda into our main kitchen to see “what’s cooking and what’s baking”. Residents could not only see, but they could also smell “what’s cooking” on Wednesday.

The Annual Lutefisk dinner was served in the Square. Many residents and some family members enjoyed the wonderful meal!  Cinnamon Uffda’s and coffee topped off the meal! The cooks are already planning the February “Square Meal Deal”. They are calling it “That’s Amore” in honor of the month of Love. It will be on Wednesday, February 19th at noon.

Many residents enjoyed activities this week including Bingo and Happy Hour on Tuesday afternoon, quilting Wednesday afternoon, Volley Ball games Thursday morning, and Resident Council on Thursday afternoon, Dime bingo on Friday afternoon, and Hollywood on Saturday afternoon. These activity programs are made successful due to the volunteers who ventured out in the cold and helped with activity programs.

Linnea Thompson was here many times helping with bingo, playing cards with residents and helping where she could. Veda Kiekhoefer was here volunteering several days. Merle, Claire, Lee Ann and Leona Ubbelohde were here to help. I don’t know what we would do without these selfless, wonderful people who could be in their own warm homes but choose go out in the cold and help the residents.

The Wednesday morning church service was very well attended. Pastor Schweitzer from Bethany Lutheran Brethren Church in Colfax led the service. Friday morning Gospel Sing was led by Glen and Julie. Delores accompanied them on the piano. Loretta Logslett led the Rosary for the Catholic residents.

Taek is a volunteer from Menomonie. She called and apologized for not coming on Thursday to do her special hands manicures. The snow storm and poor visibility didn’t stop her from coming; the fact that her car wouldn’t start did!

Our Website is in the process of being completely redone. We are being told it will be completed by the end of February or first part of March. Thank you for your patience.

The Wine Tasting, Fundraising and Silent Auction event last Saturday evening was a great success! In case you missed it we have already set the date for our 2nd Annual Wine Tasting, Fundraising, and Silent Auction. It will be on Saturday, January 24th, 2015. Tickets will go on sale in the spring. Silent Auction items can be donated any time throughout the coming year.

Another date to put on your calendar is Saturday, February 22nd, 2014, at 6PM in the Square. That is when “North of Dixie” a 5 piece band will entertain the residents and their guests and family members.

That is some of the news here in the land of Colfax where the men are waiting for spring and the women are counting off the days until spring. 44…43…42.
