Sand Creek Chatter – 1-8-2014

Carol Redmann had guests over Christmas at her home including her brother, Bruce and Kathy Peterson from Munising, Michigan, daughter Kimberely Harthun, Avery and Gabriel from Appleton, WI and Carol’s son Steve and Sandi from New Richmond, WI.

Margie Anderson helped Nancy Erickson transfer from  Sacred Heart Hospital to the Colfax Rehab on Monday, Dec. 23, where Nancy will be a resident to recuperate from her Dec. 16 car accident.

On Tuesday evening, Dec. 24, Teresa and Lee Killoren, Bryce and Brody hosted guests Elizabeth Brenden, Michael and Kelly Nelson, Zoe, Noah and C.J. Nelson home from Madison, Brad and Deb Carr and Daine from CA and Kenny and Sharon Nelson.  All the same people gathered on Christmas Day at the Sharon and Kenny Nelson home for dinner and gifts.

Louie and Judy Reetz celebrated the Reetz Christmas at the Olde School on Sat. Dec. 21st with about 30 in attendance.

All the family members of Tom and Judy Vaughn celebrated Christmas Eve at their home that included Shelly and David Rae, Megan Kayleigh, Sean and Sean’s friend, Jordan, Dariel Smith, Kim Weiss and sons, Matthew and Nathan all of Eau Claire, Mike and Diane Vaughn of New Auburn and children, Zachary and Haley and Alex, home on leave from the Army.

Doris and Herb Tallman hosted the family Christmas at their farm home on Sunday, Dec. 22 for all the children and families including: Debbie Avenido and family, Joan Lindau and family Dan Dietsche, Paul Dietsche and family, Mark and Amy Dietsche and children. All made it except Matt and Courtney of Superior who couldn’t get through the snow and ice.

Glenn and Margie Anderson hosted Christmas for their family: John and Kelsey Anderson, Tyler and Haley from Peoria, IL, Margie’s brother, Bruce and Kathy Peterson from Michigan. On Dec. 26, David and Sara Wattenford and little Kalia from Sheboygan came to visit.

Avis Hanson celebrated Christmas with all her family on Christmas Eve including: Susan and Rich Carlson, Bill and Mary Hanson, Sherri and Wyatt Hanson, Blaine and Jeanne Edington, Isabella, Tarien and Maurid, Crystal and Casey Hanson, Michael and Nicki Edington and Angelo, and also Janette Hanson.

Avis Hanson spent Christmas Day in Chippewa Falls with Rish and Sue Carlson and Michael Edington who celebrated his 31st birthday.

Christmas Day guests of Rod and Carolyn Dahl were Julie Cyrus, Marissa and Julie’s friend, Scott, also Dave and DeAnne Dahl and family of Woodville.

Merline and Norman Rufledt helped Merline’s mom, Thelma Lee, celebrate her 95th birthday at Hetzel’s in Bloomer when they were joined by Jolene and Rick Wester, Dan and Ruth Ostergaard and son, Josh from Kansas.

George and Delores Vlcek began celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve Day morning serving cinnamon rolls for Nathan and Amy Vlcek, Hunter and Whitney. 23 additional family members and friends arrived at 10 a.m. on Dec 24. Special music was Hunter singing “Go Tell it on the Mountain” amd Bill’s daughter, Georgia singing “O Holy Night”.  Kim Caldwell called from Arizona and Amy Langer called from Calif.

Gene and Bonnie Peterson hosted Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 22. Present were: Mike and Natalie Peterson, Adam, Kori, Nathan and Jesse, Cork and Barb VanDoorn and Nicole, Ken and Karen Fetterly, Nolan and Nick, Joel and Karen Smith, Jack and Ryan.

Jean Hanson and all her family members gathered at the home of Brad and Tricia Hanson and Brayden in Eau Claire on Dec. 24th for supper. Also present were Kyle’s friend, Sara and Hayden’s friend, Nicole.

Judy Gronning joined Jean Hanson at her home on Christmas Day.

Norma Waterhouse and Thelma Waterhouse hosted the family on Christmas Eve. All the family were present except Cathy Creaser who is in Canada and she called Norma and Thelma in the afternoon of Dec. 24.  Jennifer and Andrew Makensi came for lunch on Dec. 24.

Brad and Deb Carr and Daine gladly returned  to the California  warm weather after spending Christmas with the Nelsons’ and Killorens’ in Sand Creek and the Carrs’ in Oshkosh.

Lillian Wendlandt returned to her Sand Creek apt on Jan. 3rd after enjoying Christmas and New Year’s with her daughter, Marian and Michael Brasher and grandchildren.

Swanhild Rasmussen’s daughter, Carol and John Squires, who reside in Friendsville, MD had the shocking experience on New Year’s Day afternoon at 5 p.m. to have their two warehouses burn to the ground. Insurance agents came on January 3rd  to investigate and hopefully be of some help. Their website, St. Paul Mercantile is closed for business on account of fire.

All of Mae Sparby’s family gathered at the home of Pastor Michael Sparby in Chicago including Michael’s two sons, Eric and Nick and Ashley and her husband, Nate and of course, Mae.

Pastor Michael Sparby drove up to Sand Creek to be with his mother, Mae over New Year’s.

Carol Gustum is fortunate to have her four children within driving distance. She celebrated two places on Christmas Eve first with daughter, Connie and Phil Cruse and granddaughter, Liz Cruse and great granddaughter as well as Christopher and his wife. Then she also enjoyed time on Christmas Eve with son, Tom and Sue Gustum and family. Daughter, Sue and Butch Mares visited their daughter & family in Carrollton, Texas. Steven and Brenda Gustum celebrated with their daughter, Erika and Tony Wold and their girls as well as son, Brandon and Heather Gustum.

Our Sand Creek community is sorry that Cece Cruse of the Sand Creek Cafe broke an ankle and damaged the other ankle. Café patrons really miss her.

Jean Hanson spent New Year’s Eve with her son, Brad and Tricia Hanson and family.

The ladies from New Hope Lutheran church served coffee and goodies to the residents of Morningside Apts. on the afternoon of December 31st.

Merton and Marie  Swanson  hosted their family on Christmas Eve  that included: Angela and Jim Smith of Eau Claire, Stacey and Ryan Hayes, Bailey and Lauren of Chetek.

One day they “skyped”  with Erin’s family in Bonnie Lake, WA with both cameras “going”.

Merton and Marie attended their grandchildren’s Sunday School Christmas program at Chetek Lutheran church in Chetek. They also heard them sing in “Joyful Noise” at Knapp Haven and another event was the school program at Roselawn School so all grandparents were kept busy during the Christmas season.
