B-C wrestlers compete at Northern Badger Invite

RIVER FALLS – With just nine wrestlers competing in the two day Northern Badger Tournament Dec. 27-29, the Bloomer-Colfax wrestling team faced stiff competition in the Division 1 bracket, placing 12th of 14 teams with 55 points.

Brady Simonson earned 27.5 of those points as he placed fifth at 126 pounds with a 5-1 record. After dropping his first match 8-1, Simonson came back to win five straight. Simonson’s wins started with an injury default over his Johnson Creek opponent after the first period, a bye in the next round, a 17-0 technical fall against Ashland, a 4-2 decision over Cadott and an exciting 4-2 overtime win over Paul Hansen of Prescott.

113 pounder Tucker Hovde placed 12th for 11 team points with a 3-4 record with two of his wins coming from pins over wrestlers from Phillips and Johnson Creek. Jon Hayton earned 5.5 points at 152 pounds with a 2-2 record, Jacob Malinowski scored three points for the team with a 2-2 record at 120 pounds and Brady Chance also collected three team points at 285 with a 2-2 record.

106 pounder Justin Wachtendonk finished 1-2 in the tournament for two points and Stephan Snyder also came up with two points with a 1-2 record at 220 pounds. Lassi Karppi ended the tourney with a 1-2 record at 182 pounds for one point. Brady Hetke at 170 pounds ended up with a 1-2 record but did not receive any team points.

Up next for the team is a home duel meet IN COLFAX this Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 against Hayward. Come on out and cheer the team on!
