PLUM CITY — Keeping their perfect record intact at 7-0 and 5-0 in the conference, the Elk Mound boys’ basketball team held the Plum City Blue Devils to single digit scoring in all four quarters enroute to a 79-24 victory Dec. 20 in Plum City.
A 23 point outburst in the first quarter by the Mounders while giving up just seven pretty much put the game away as 14 of those points came from Zac Doll on three triples, a pair of deuces and a free toss. Doll continued to tear through the Plum City defense, scoring the rest of his game high 25 points with 11 in the second quarter. Dexter Curry scored on four buckets in the paint and Travis Nelson added five points to help the team take a 52-15 halftime lead.
Six different Mounders scored in the third quarter while their intense defense held the Blue Devils to a single bucket. The Mounders appeared to work on their passing and dribbling skills as they scored just four fourth quarter points, all on freethrows.
“Plum City decided to play a zone defense early in the game to keep Curry from impacting the game,” Elk Mound coach Chris Hahn said. “But they left our perimeter players wide open and Nelson and Doll did a great job of getting us off to a good start. PC went to a man to man defense and we were able to do a lot of damage in the paint after that.”
Besides Doll’s 25 points, Curry finished with 12 and Nelson 11. After two games in Green Bay Dec. 27-28, the Mounders will travel to Fall Creek Jan. 7.
