CHRISTMAS! What a special time! Residents received beautiful handmade Christmas cards, candy and cookies from local Churches.
On Saturday Christmas carolers from New life Church could be heard singing while walking up and down the halls. In the morning of the 19th fifty-six kindergarten kids dressed in red and green elf costumes performed in the Square. The residents loved to see their cheery faces. In the afternoon and early evening family and friends could be seen in the Square at our 1st Annual Resident Open House Christmas Party. Kathie Irwin played the piano while Jolly Old Saint Nicolas and his elf Daisy visited with everyone. He was still working on his “Naughty or Nice” list. He did however have a gift for every resident. We sure have a lot of nice people living here! He ate lots of cookies and even brought some cookies outside to his reindeer. Anyway-that’s what he told us!
Magic Mary Faeber appeared on the 23rd to entertain us with her fabulous music. Cliff Retzloff, Lois Hayes, Loni Lynch, and Vernetta Larson took the stage, held the microphone and sang with Mary. Our Physical Therapist Nick Cernohouse made his début singing a beautiful Christmas song.
On Christmas Eve we played Bingo. Later Sue Hill read the original “Night Before Christmas” to the residents. Outside the snow interminably wrapped the town in another layer of fluffy white. It made Christmas Eve picture perfect with fresh snow falling throughout the day and our Love Light Star shone brightly. Hot coffee and cookies greeted visitors who braved the weather to be with their loved ones.
On Thursday morning we had a Christmas Church Service. Pastor Taylor from Otter Creek Christian Fellowship Church led the service. Pastor Taylor’s sons Clark and Isaac started the service by playing some Christmas songs on the piano. Loretta had Rosary prior to the service. Thursday afternoon we were treated to a “Toy Story” by Wally Hurt and Mary Kmecik and Mary’s daughter Jennifer Seurer and her daughter Cheyenne. Wally showed his collection of Animated Christmas toys.
On Friday morning we had Gospel sing with Glen, Julie and Deloris Huber on the piano. Dime Bingo in the afternoon kept everyone entertained. Veda was here for many hours helping everyone. Linnea, Merle, Lee Ann, Leona Ubbelhode and Teak were here to help at different times all week. We are all blessed by these people and others who give so much of their time to help make resident’s lives more enjoyable. Happy New Year from all here in the land of Colfax where the men are plowing snow and the women plowing thru the house to clean up after Christmas.
