The Bloomer-Colfax wrestling team finally got their season started with a trio of duel meets held in Cameron Dec. 10, finishing 1-2 by defeating Northwestern 50-24, but lost to Cameron 44-28 and to Unity 45-33. They followed up with a home duel meet in Bloomer Dec. 12 against Cumberland and dropped the contest 57-24, then competed in a tournament at Eau Claire North Saturday, Dec. 14.
Tucker Hovde, wrestling at 113 pounds, Brady Simonson at 132 pounds and Brady Hedtke at 170 pounds all went 3-0 on the night as Hovde won by pins over Unity and Cameron and took a forfeit against Northwestern, Simonson won by a technical fall 18-3 over his NW opponent, won 10-4 over Unity and 10-1 over Cameron while Hetke won all three matches by pins.
Justin Wachtendonk (106) went 1-2 with a pin over NW, Jacob Malinowski (120) finished 1-2 including a pin against Cameron, Jarrod Kressin (126) lost his only match of the evening 6-4 to NW, Collin Bungartz (138) dropped all three matches, Trevor Newton (145) went 1-2 with his win coming against NW and Jon Thorgerson (152) won two matches by pins over NW and Unity and dropped the third 9-4 against Cameron.
It was feast or famine for Cole Anderson-Olson as he won by a pin in 4:20 over NW but lost by pins to Unity and Cameron. Matt Shaw (182) lost two matches by pins and Eric Wachtendonk wrestled once at 182 and also lost by a pin. Cody Hetchler (195) dropped a pair of matches, both by pins and Kyle Wenzel also lost by a pin at the same weight. Stephen Snyder (220) ended his night at 2-1 with two forfeit wins and a loss by pin against Unity. Ryan Ratcliff (285) pinned his NW and Unity opponents and lost 8-4 against Cameron.
Bloomer-Colfax dug themselves an early hole when they lost the first four matches to go behind 24-0. Starting at 120 pounds, Malinowski, lost via a pin, B-C forfeited at 126, and Simonson (132) and Bungartz (138) also lost by pins. Newton (145) finally put some team points up with a pin at 0.34 but Thorgerson (152) also dropped his match by getting pinned. Anderson-Olson (160) brought the score to 30-16 with his own pin at 3:19 but B-C dropped the next five matches with Hedtke (170), Shaw (182), Tommy Johnson (195) and Snyder (220) all getting pinned while Radcliff (285) lost 7-5. Justin Wachtendonk (106) and Hovde (113) finished the night off on a positive note as they put their opponent’s shoulders to the matt in 3:08 and 0:40, respectively.
Eau Claire North
Simonson finished the day as the runner up in the 126 bracket, winning his first three matches by pins and the fourth with a major decision 11-3 before losing by pin to a La Crosse Central wrestler.

As a team, B-C placed 11th out of 25 teams with competition coming from all over the state in all three divisions.
