COLFAX — With their first meet scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Superior, the Bloomer-Colfax co-op wrestling team hopes to be able to fill a lot of weight classes this season. Plenty of wrestlers hit the mats for second year head coach Jim Poirer including several with varsity experience.
Leading the team is sophomore Brady Simonson, a state qualifier last season at 113 pounds after winning the Heart O’ North Conference title and the Division II regional and sectional titles. Also returning are seniors Trevor Newton and Dan Thorgerson along with juniors Justin Wachtendonk, David Blanchard, Jon Hayton, Matt Shaw, Lassi Karppi, Brennan Arbuckle and Brady Chance. Sophomores with varsity experience include Tucker Hovde, Zack Arvold, Brady Hetke, Jon Thorgerson, Tommy Johnson, Jake Floodquist, Stephan Snyder and Ryan Ratcliff. Incoming freshmen are Gage Zwiefelhofer, Austin Sommerfield, Jarrod Kressin, Eric Wachtendonk, Jeran Swoboda, Collin Bungartz, Cole Anderson-Olson, Tanner Olson and Cody Hetchler.
“We should have a better chance in more of our matches since we may be able to fill all of our weights,” Poirier said. “We are still a young team with some freshmen who have been in the youth wrestling program for some time now. They should be able to help us out this year.”
