Holzwarth improves in second trip to state

Elk Mound senior Ben Holzwarth, in his second straight trip to the state cross country meet in Wisconsin Rapids Nov. 2, bested his time and placement by a long shot from his junior year.

Holzwarth finished in 24th place with a time of 17:09 last Saturday after finishing 109th at 18:28 a year ago. There were 161 individual competitors this year and the race was won by Tyson Miehne of Darlington at 15:57.

“I felt I little more comfortable running this year after being here a year ago,” Holzwarth said.” I set my goal to finish in the top 20 and even though I was a little short, I think I ran pretty well. The competition was tough but it made me run harder.”

Other runners from the Dunn-St. Croix Conference competing included Sasha Maro from Mondovi in 32nd place, Tanner Johnson-Hetchler of Boyceville in 45th and Noah Wells of Plum City-Elmwood in 68th place. In Division II, Jordan Bringold of St. Croix Central was 46th.
