The Game of Life

The Game of Life

a poem by Dorothy Burton

You are in the game of life

Are you playing it well

Are you headed toward heaven

Or accidently toward hell

Do you still have a conscience

That helps to guide you right

Are you headed for that perfect place

Where there never comes a night

You did not ask to join the game

But yet you’re greatly there

And yours is a choice…to clearly make

Don’t venture without a prayer

Don’t ramble on in any old way

A mistake and you begin to fall

It’s not as easy to crawl out from a sin

As before you heard it’s call

The game of life is played but once

And it’s God that holds the power

To tell when life on earth will stop

Whether it’s days or years or an hour

So live it well, be kind and good.

So there is no regret

Remember Jesus paid the price

And for the asking…the price is met

So talk it over with your Lord

You really need Him all the way

There is no other name to get to heaven

What if you were called today??

Jesus waits at our heart’s door knocking

What profit if our soul is lost

All the money and pleasures gone

In life’s game, a tremendous cost

Jesus said what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul – What are we trading our salvation for – the things that vanish away? Why? Matthew 16:26. We will be rewarded according to our works, the 27th verse says.
