Sand Creek Chatter – 9-25-2013

The Martha and Mary Mission Group of the Independent Bible church in Sand Creek met at the Chapel on Wed. afternoon of Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. Lisa Gustum played a piano solo preceding the Bible Study.

 Carl Hoveland of Athens, GA arrived in Sand Creek on Wed. Sept 18 to check up on old friends and relatives. He made his headquarters with his sister, Hannah and Gaylon Greenhill at Gronhaug near Dallas throughout his week’s visit.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, he visited his favorite English teacher from Chetek High School who now resides in Barron and they had a great visit. She is presently 97 years old. Then he called on relatives, Ovida Hanxon as well as Venonah Dalhoe who are residents at Pelican Place in Chetek.

He called on his cousin, Swanhild Rasmussen at Morningside Apts. on Friday afternoon of Sept. 20.

During the past week, Carl visited cousins, Vernoid and Ardys Hoveland in Colfax. Then he checked out the new Rehabilitation Center in Colfax where he visited Snort Gilberts and also Mrs. Juel Noer.

Carl also called on Arlene Hoveland in Dovre one day.

On Saturday, September 21st, Tessa Gustum was a bridesmaid of Mahrian Popple at a 4 p.m. outdoor wedding at the bride’s home whose parents are Brian and Marita Popple of Colfax. Mahrian married Joshua Coblentz. A reception followed the wedding ceremony at the Pavilion on the Colfax Fairgrounds with relatives and friends as their guests along with the members of the Independent Bible Church.

Stephanie Hanson, the daughter of Kurt and Janene Hanson of the Sand Creek area was married to Loren Thomas in an outdoor ceremony in the yard of a home on Abbey Road in Eau Claire on Sunday, September 22 at 3:30 p.m. The groom’s five brothers were in the wedding party, one serving as best man, Jeffrey Thomas and the other brothers as groomsmen who were: Wayne, Dallas, Gregory and Shawn Thomas.

Kyle Hanson and Ryan Hanson, brothers of the bride, were the ushers. The maid of honor was Janessa Wendlandt, a cousin of the bride, bridesmaids were: Patricia Carter, Tricia Hanson, aunt of the bride, Lindsey Little and younger sister of the bride was Nicole Hanson. The ringbearer was Brayden Hanson, relative of the bride, and the flower girl was Elizabeth Thomas, a relative of the groom.

Relatives present for the ceremony, Kurt’s mother, Jean Hanson and Janene’s mother. who were grandmothers.

Scripture readers were: Scott and Jolene Frey. Other aunts, uncles and cousins of Stephanie’s were present from both sides of the family. An aunt Dawn Gronning had baked one of the wedding cakes.

A host of relatives had traveled here for the wedding from Canada who were relatives of the groom. The officiant for the ceremony was Jeremy Schlough from New Zealand.

Thelma Waterhouse attended her Class Reunion from Colfax High School held at Mom’s Café on Colfax on Saturday, September 21.

October 5th starts the new season of Blue Grass Jams at the Sand Creek Arts Building/Old School in Sand Creek. The Blue Grass Jams are held in the Grace Community Room and begin at 6:30 p.m. the first Saturday of Oct.-May. You never know who will show up and that is half the fun. The jam is free, donations for snacks goes to provide concerts during the coming year. See you there.
