West CAP’s Peter Kilde receives Statewide Housing Award

By Kelsie Hoitomt

GLENWOOD CITY — Peter Kilde, Executive Director of West CAP, recently was awarded the Charles M. Hill, Sr. Award for Housing Excellence at this year’s A Home for Everyone statewide affordable housing conference.

The Wisconsin Collaborative for Affordable Housing is a sponsor of the annual A Home for Everyone conference and they have presented an award to one individual who “exhibits a life-long effort of dedication and excellence in the creation of affordable housing in Wisconsin” every year since 1999.

Kilde received this year’s award as recognition of the many years of commitment and expertise he has brought to the cause of affordable housing in the state.

As Executive Director for the past 18 years, he has led successful and innovative housing developments in a rural part of the state, traditionally under-utilized by such efforts. Throughout the years, he has been active in applying creative energy efficiency strategies to housing developments.

Kilde is the 17th individual to receive the Charles M. Hill Sr. Award for Housing Excellence since its inception and only the second Community Action Agency director to be honored.

Kilde was very honored to receive this award, but he stressed that even though it was given to him, it was accepted on behalf of the entire West CAP agency for the hard work and dedication of each employee.

The award is named in honor of Charles M. Hill Sr. who served from 1970-78 in the cabinet of three Wisconsin Governors as Secretary of Local Affairs and Development, Chair of the Wisconsin Housing Finance Authority and Executive Director of the Council on Criminal Justice.
