Elk Mound finishes 2-7 at Sprawl, wins pair at Cadott
After a long two days of volleyball Aug. 30-31 at the UW-Stout Sprawl in Menomonie, the Elk Mound girls won two of the seven matches they played, then won both of their contests in the Cadott Triangular held Sept. 3.
Stout Sprawl
Competing against teams from all over the state in every division, the Mounders lost in straight sets to Cadott (25-23, 25-21) and Mosinee (25-22, 25-23) before winning the first set against Eau Claire Memorial (25-19), then losing the next two (25-17, 15-13). They dropped another match against Osceola (25-12, 25-12) then faced conference rivals Colfax, losing set number one (25-23) then coming back to win the next two (25-22, 15-9). They won their second match in straight sets over Lakeland (25-14, 25-18) then went to three sets against Lourdes Academy, dropping the first one (25-21) and taking the second (25-12) and losing a close final (16-14).
Anna Sessions led the team in kills for the tournament, collecting 27, Elly Friberg added 25, Morgan Polden 17, Lizzie Schreiber 14, Hannah Flatness 11 and Moriah Mauer seven. Friberg served up 10 aces while Dayna Kotecki added five and Katie Johnson and Kyra Anderson both had three. Johnson had a team leading 66 assists while Kotecki finished with 37. On the defensive end, Rachel Caron saved points by digging the ball up 48 times, Johnson and Friberg both had 35 digs, Kotecki 24, Anderson 21, Mattie Pitts 19, Polden 18 and McKenna Borofka 15.
Cadott Triangular
The Mounders won in straight sets over Gilman (25-16, 25-11) and did the same in the match against Cadott, (25-13, 25-23). Sessions was tops in kill shots for the team with 15 and Polden added six. Johnson picked up 16 assists and Kotecki set her teammates up nine times, while Anderson served three aces and Polden, Friberg and Caron all had a pair. Friberg collected 10 digs on the defensive end with Johnson and Polden both adding nine.
