The Chetek High School Class of 1963 celebrated their 50th Class Reunion at the Chetek Airport Park on Saturday, August 17 and reported having a very good time. Members helping plan the reunion were Jean Hanson, Floy Ann Lofthus and Cleo Taft. They had a nice attendance with about 36 attending out of a class of 92. 13 members of the class had passed away.
A number of casual attendees stopped at Mary Knutson’s home on Friday evening of August 16th for an informal gathering.
Dick and Elaine Clemmens attended the Clifford and Hayes Family Reunion at the Knapp Hall on Sunday, August 18. About 40 people were present for the event.
Sandra Blair and her husband, Jerry from Greenville, South Carolina, were home in Sand Creek from Tuesday, August 13 to Sunday, August 18. They went to a Water Ski Show to see Maggie Timm perform and then to the Go-Cart Races to see Sam Mars race. Nephew Greg Pierce and his wife, Dani from Atlanta, GA had visited the previous week. Paul and Lou Ann arranged for all the families to get together on the evening of Tuesday, August 13 for supper at their home. Including: Scott and Amy Gilberts, Kelly and Clayton Timm, Alex, Maggie and Adam, Krista and Jimmy Mars, Sam and Taylor.
Stephanie Hanson arrived home from New Zealand to be with her parents, Kurt and Janene Hanson and family members in aniticpation of her September wedding
Elaine Toycen and Swanee Rasmusen met Harold and Betty Lou Peterson and son, John, of Wausau, who were camping at Myron Park this week, for breakfast at the Sand Creek Café on Saturday morning of August 24.
Marian Brasher visited her mom, Lillian Wendlandt at Morningside Apts. on Thursday, August 15 when they went out for lunch together.
Angela Sparks, the daughter of Randy and Mary Sparks will be entering UW-LaCrosse at the end of August to start school after Labor Day weekend
Carol Anderson, Anita Jenson and Ingrid Rothenbuehler and Elsie Krause from Prairie Farm enjoyed a concert by The Blue and the Blond, a norwegian Hardanger fiddler and a Finnish kendele player at the Ceska Opera House in Haugen on Friday evening of August 23. The opera house offers on-going concerts including local talent as well as featured European guests.
Jim and Jessica Hanson returned home on Friday evening of August 23 from a trip to Fresno, CA . They were there for some training with Christians in Action.
A bridal shower was held for Stephanie Hanson at Harvestime Church in Eau Claire on Sunday afternoon of August 25. The theme was a “Royal Shower”.
The family of Alex Vaughn hosted a “build your own sundae” farewell party for Alex, the oldest son of Mike and Diane Vaughn of New Auburn on Sunday, August 25.
Alex is leaving for the Army National Guard on Wednesday, August 28. He will be going to Oklahoma for his Basic Training. Present for the event were grandparents, Tom and Judy Vaughn, Kim Weiss and son, Matthew of Eau Claire, Shelly and David Rae, Sean and Megan and Kayleigh of Sand Creek , Alex’s parents, Mike and Diane Vaughn, Zachary and Haley, Alex’s friend, Beth and also friends, Jordan and Jeremy.
Jonathan and Alicia Wendlandt hosted a birthday party for their little daughter, Elise on her second birthday held at the Bloomer Park on Sunday, August 25, attended by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Following Stephanie Hanson’s bridal shower at the Harvestime church in Eau Claire last Sunday, August 25th, Stephanie traveled with her cousin and maid of honor, Janessa Wendlandt and other bridesmaids to Kansas City to stay a few days.
Tammi Benson, Becca Wolff, Maggie and Grace, Jeff Teske, Jake and Alyx Teske and Jim Graser all went to Door County on August 15 to be with Caryl Schoen and family and then returned home on August 20.
Tessa Gustum, Abby Gustum and Sam Gustum attended the Minnesota State Fair Fiddle Contest on the afternoon of Saturday, August 24. Tessa Gustum placed third in her division.
George and Delores Vlcek attended a birthday party in honor of an old friend, Kleon Cronk, held on Long Lake on Sunday, August 25. A special privilege was seeing Ann Morrone and her daughters, Shelly and Mary Ann who at one time lived in the Sand Creek area
Butch and Sue Mares, Carol Gustum, Tom and Sue Gustum, Melvin and Lisa all attended the 4 p.m. outdoor wedding of Christopher and Heather Cruse at Walker, MN on Saturday, August 24.
Other family members attending Phil and Connie Cruse’s son, Christopher and Heather’s wedding were Christopher’s sister, Liz Cruse and her fiancé and their little daughter. Phil and Connie Cruse enjoyed having so many guests from the Sand Creek area present for the happy event. Also present were: Steve and Brenda Gustum, Erika and Tony Wold and girls, Brandon and Amy Gustum, Leanna and Fernando Munoz and daughters.
Paul and Lou Ann Gilberts, Merton and Marie Swanson were among those attending from Sand Creek.
Jean Hanson and Judy Gronning left early Thursday morning of August 29 to travel to Michigan and attend a 5:30 p.m. wedding for a nephew on August 30.
Caryl Schoen and Elaine Toycen enjoyed coffee at the Sand Creek Café on Wednesday, August 29 when they were joined by Sid and Marie Etlicher of Bloomer.
Sandy Anderson of The Golden Hide sold her products at the Festival in the Pines in Eau Claire on August 24 and 25 and she was also scheduled to sell at Voyager Village (northwest of Spooner) on Labor Day weekend August 31 and September 1.
Be sure to wish Harlan Anderson a “Happy birthday” on August 30 even if it is belated.
Glenn and Margie Anderson hosted a birthday dinner for Harlan and Lana Anderson on Friday, August 30, Harlan’s birthday with sister, Carol Anderson joining them.
Jim and Jessica Hanson and their family expect to arrive in Guatamela City on Wednesday, September 4 after flying out of Chicago on Saturday, August 31.
Bob and Mary Hanson went with the family as far as Oconomowoc on August 30 where they stayed with Katie and Matt Lois and family before leaving O’Hare airport in Chicago on Saturday, August 31.
Jim and Jessica had been so pleased with the Bon Voyage party on August 25 when friends from distances came to wish them well in the coming year.
Elaine Froiland celebrated her 90th birthday at New Hope Lutheran church on Sunday, September 1 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
