Summer Fun in the Sun 4H Youth Trip
It was a day filled with firsts as nine older 4-H youth and four chaperones hit the road on August 13th for the annual summer youth trip (formally known as the Wisconsin Tour). We began the day by taking route to Como Park Zoo & Conservatory. Once there, participants were able to see the zoo animal including monkeys, giraffes, seals, and reindeer! We also had the opportunity to learn more about the polar bear exhibits while attending the Polar Bear Show. Participants were also able to take in the beauty of the hundreds of native and exotic plants found in the observatory.
Sharing in the excitement of America’s favorite past time, our second stop was to the St. Paul Saints Baseball game against Sioux Falls. Midway Park was a hit! The Saints took the lead early in the game, wrapping it up in the ninth with a winning lead over Sioux Falls. Throughout the game we all enjoyed the games and entertainment of stadium comedians Gert the Flirt and Ballerina, and of course loved seeing the fast pitched plays of the Saints.
After the game, we hit the road for one last stop at Knoke’s Chocolates in Hudson. As a longtime supporter of St. Croix Crounty 4-H, Knoke’s was the perfect way to end the day with double and triple decker scooped ice cream cones and homemade chocolates.
The main purpose of the trip is to give youth a summer experience they may not get to have, while building friendships with other county 4-H members. Look for next year’s trip in the weeks to come.
