Sand Creek Chatter – 8-14-2013
Kenny and Sharon Nelson traveled to Duluth this past week after winning the trip in a raffle at the Sand Creek Firemen’s Picnic August 7th. It was a pleasant “trip day” for them.
Saturday afternoon coffee on August 10th was enjoyed at the Sand Creek Café by Snort Gilberts, Cindy Gilberts, Tom and Caryl Schoen and Elaine Toycen bringing them up-to-date on the local happenings.
Crystal Hanson, a college student pursuing a course in Psychiatry and Casey Hanson planning to be a pediatric nurse, took a special day on Monday, August 5th to spend the day with their grandmother, Avis, before school started. They also visited Aunt Lillian Hanson in Chetek.
Jean Hanson, Marcia Anderson and Judy Gronning returned home on August 7th after a week’s travel trip to Lima, Montana where they visited Dorothy and Alan Mikula and family. They then came through Watford, North Dakota with the opportunity to see Jordan and Crystal Wendlandt, Haylee and Malachi.
Rocky Thompson of Minocqua was home on August 5th and 6th to spend time with his mother, Sue Piotrowski.
Irv and Wanda Omtvedt from Nebraksa came to Sand Creek on the weekend of August 10th to attend the Colfax Class Reunion during the weekend. as well as having the opportunity to see relatives including Alice Omtvedt.
Michael Lindau of Medford, Dan Dietsche of Bloomington, MN visited at the Doris and Herb Tallman farm on the weekend of August 10th and 11th. Doris and Herb also took in the Luther Park Auction on Sunday, August 11th.
Mary Knutson, Heidi Kodesh and Claire Knutson shopped in Rice Lake on Saturday, August 10th and then went out for lunch.
The Timm family had their Long Lake gathering at the Schadal House near Birchwood from July 27th to August 3rd. Joining Jerry and Sandy Timm were: daughter, Shelby and granddaughter, Kylie Fader of Rice Lake, Clayton and Kelly Timm, Alex, Maggie and Adam of Sand Creek, Eric Timm and Tim Ackerman of Los Angeles, CA, Brad and Peggy Ewert and Jordan of Chippewa Falls, granddaughter, Alissa Waukau and Justin Birdbear of Albuquerque, New Mexico and granddaughter, Allecia Waukau with great-granddaughter, of Minneapolis, MN.
Fifteen year-old Henrik Lehnert from Weisbaden, Germany, arrived on August 10th to be an exchange student in the home of John and Wendy Loy, Zach and Andrew. The family took Henrik to New Hope Lutheran church for the Sunday morning services on August 11th . One of their first outings was attending the Hydroflites Water Show on Sunday afternoon and evening in Chetek on the lake on August 11th.
Mary and Bob Hanson have returned from a month long trip to the northwest. On July 7 they along with grandsons, Nate and Josh Hanson, drove to Seattle, stopping to see Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, Crazy Horse, Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. When they arrived in Seattle, they were joined by Jim, Jess, Camila, Angie and Roci Hanson and Katie, Matt, Jenna and Adam and Lois of Oconomowoc. The three families spent a week on Camano Island, seeing the sights in Seattle and Olympic Peninsula. On July 19, they attended the wedding of Mary’s nephew, Andrew Otto, in Bellingham, WA. After the younger families returned to Wisconsin, Mary and Bob traveled with Canadian friends around western Canada. Stops included Vancouver, Whistler, Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff. Their return trip was via the northern route, including the North Cascades and the Grand Coulee Dam with an overnight stay at Bob’s sister, Ruth Osterberg’s home in Alexandria, MN.
After returning home briefly, they drove to the Wisconsin Dells to meet Katie and Matt Louis and take Jenna and Adam to Sand Creek for a week’s stay on the farm.
