Voeltz takes first on dirt track
By Kelsie Hoitomt
The weekend of July 19-20 of dirt track racing brought a third, first place finish to Glenwood City’s Brent Voeltz in his number 37 Hornet car at the Red Cedar Speedway.
Voeltz was further towards the back of the pack to begin the 10 lap feature, but he was able to maneuver around Eric Schultz to slide into second place and then eventually passed Jeremy Johnson for the victory.
Schultz had to settle for third place and the other area local Buddy Hanestad finished in fourth.
Voeltz also took first place in Jim Falls at the Eagle Valley Speedway against six other drivers on Sunday, July 21.
Ron Hanestad was another local that competed in Jim Falls in his Street Stock car. He placed third against ten other drivers.
Hanestad came close to victory in Menomonie as well until a late change in the race brought Sam Fankhauser to the front for the win with just a few laps left.
Due to fall-like weather the last weekend of July, the races were cancelled because of rain both Friday and Saturday.
Racing will resume as usual this coming weekend, however with a special feature at Cedar Lake Speedway as it is time for the USA Nationals with action starting in the evening on Thursday, August 1.
