Have a Fair-y Tail Time: Dunn County Fair starts July 24

MENOMONIE — This year’s theme for the Dunn County Fair that starts Wednesday, July 24, is Have a Fair-y Tail Time.

 Admission to the fairgrounds is $1 per person and $2 after 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The Calkins Midway opens at 5 p.m. today. Unlimited ride passes are $35 in advance or $50 at the ticket booth to ride unlimited during all open times.

Wednesday’s wristband special is “Sneak-A-Peek” from 5 to 10 p.m. for $16.

Thursday, July 25, is Buck Day from 1 p.m. to closing when all rides will be $1 each.

Friday, July 26, is Wristband Mania featuring wristbands from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. for $20.

Saturday, July 27, is Family Day with wristbands for $20 from noon to 11 p.m.

Sunday, July 28, is Last Blast with wristbands from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. for $16.

Each day of the fair, the Commercial Building opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m., except for Sunday, when the Commercial Building closes at 5 p.m., and today, when the building opens at 4 p.m.

Kids’ Veggie Races will be held at 4 p.m. today.

Other miscellaneous events include the horse Trail Class show at 3 p.m. on Friday; a farmers’ market at noon today and at 8 a.m. on Saturday; a Kiddy Tractor Pull at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; a 4-H Pie and Ice Cream Social at 11 a.m. on Sunday; Little Britches Showmanship at noon on Sunday; and a Cricket Spitting contest at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Free stage

Entertainment at the Dunn County Fair Free Stage begins Wednesday at 7 p.m. with Menomonie Idol karaoke competition preliminaries.

Thursday, July 25, at 7 p.m. will be the Menomonie Idol karaoke competition finals.

Friday, July 26, the St. Croix County 4-H Show Choir will be performing at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Nicole Kottke will be performing on the Free Stage at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday. Kottke is a contemporary country music artist.

Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., In Capable Hands (Steve Russell and Kobi Shaw of Colfax) will be performing on the Free Stage.

Saturday evening, Tonic Sol-fa will perform at 7 p.m. and  9 p.m. on the Free Stage.

Sunday, July 28, the Free Stage will feature The Memories (Warren Petryk and Tim Stevens) performing a gospel show at 12 noon and a variety show at 2:30 p.m.

Sunday, July 28, the Dunn County 4-H awards ceremony will held at 1 p.m. at the Free Stage.

Auctions

The 4-H Small Animal Auction will be held, Saturday, July 27, at 3 p.m. in the small animal exhibit building on the west side of the fairgrounds.

The Meat Animal Auction will be held Saturday, July 27, at 5 p.m. outside the animal barns on the west side of the fairgrounds.

Grandstand

Grandstand entertainment at the Dunn County Fair will begin Wednesday evening with the Midwest Farmers Draft Horse Pull at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Thursday, July 25, the Dunn County Farm Truck and Tractor Pull will take place at the grandstand at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5, and children five and under are free.

Friday, July 26, will feature the Red Cedar Races at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.

Saturday, July 27, the MillerLite ProFab NTPA Regional National Event will be held at the grandstand at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for children ten and under.

Sunday, July 28, will feature the Menomonie Lions Club Demolition Derby at the grandstand at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; children under 12 are $5; a pit pass is $10.

A lawn mower demo class begins at 12:30.
