Black Sox crushed by Chetek

In what turned out to be a near perfect night weather wise for a baseball game, it was anything but perfect for the Colfax Black Sox as they dropped a 16-0 contest that ended in four innings to the Chetek team July 2 in Colfax. The loss brought the Black Sox record to 2-4 with five games left on the summer schedule.

Chetek used five singles and two walks to take a 4-0 lead before an out was recorded in the first inning and tacked on four more when the Black Sox infield committed two errors to go with another walk and a hit batter to increase the lead to 8-0. Logan Mittelstadt then came on in relief of Jarrod Rudi and ended the long inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Mittelstadt sent a two out single to left and stole second in the bottom of the inning but was stranded there after a final strikeout. Mittelstadt then kept the Chetek batters somewhat under control in the second as he gave up a single run on two hits and a single, but the Black Sox lost a golden opportunity to put some runs on the board in their half of the inning. Rudi banged a single and moved to third on a two base hit by Brandon Anderson. A pop up caught in the infield confused the runners on the infield fly rule and Anderson was doubled off second. Andrew Harmon drew a walk to put runners on first and third but a ground out ended the threat.

It appeared Mittelstadt was in control after he gave up a lead off single but retired the next two batters on a strikeout and a ground out in the third, but a walk and an infield error allowed Chetek to score another run and another walk and a smash to the fence cleared the bases for a 13-0 lead before a ground ball to first baseman Anderson ended the inning.

Colfax went down in order in their half of the inning and Chetek continued to add runs as Sawyer DeMoe took over on the mound for the Black Sox in the fourth. Two walks, a couple of errant pitches, an infield hit and a double to center made it 16-0, and the game ended after the Black Sox went down 1-2-3 yet again.

Rudi took the loss allowing five hits with three walks. Mittelstadt struck out three Chetek batters while giving up three hits with two free passes and DeMoe whiffed one batter and walked two while allowing two hits. As a team, the Black Sox collected three hits and struck out five times.
