This is Jenna’s third year participating in the state FFA honors band and she hopes to during next summer’s convention as well. Jenna will be traveling down to the Wisconsin State Fair in August to perform with the FFA honors band. She has also been nominated by Monte Dunnam to apply for the national FFA honors band. If she is selected, she will serve as one of the representatives at the National FFA Convention in October.
On Wednesday of convention the Glenwood City FFA competed in the High School Quiz Bowl Contest. This was the fifth year for the Wisconsin FFA High School Quiz Bowl contest. There were sixteen teams competing in the contest and ranges in grades 9th through 12th. FFA members had to demonstrate their FFA knowledge and skills in answering questions about FFA programs, history, activities and leaders, as well as questions about Wisconsin agriculture. Representing the Glenwood City FFA were Kaitlin Konder, Wesley Franklin, Jim Buttles, and Abby Kahler. The team advanced all the way to the finals round where they placed 2nd in the state to the Amery FFA. Kaylin chose to interview for a veterinarian clinic receptionist. She was interviewed by business professionals and was critiqued on poise, confidence, and other necessary traits that are successful in the business world. Kaylin ended up placing 3rd in the state!
During their spare time at convention, Wesley, Jim, Abby, and Kaitlin volunteered in the FFA newsroom. They were responsible for directing guests to various places throughout the building, editing news releases, filing paperwork, and taking photographs of events happening around convention. Also at convention, Brandon Cassellius of the Glenwood City FFA was recognized as a 3 Star Leader and will be receiving a pin and certificate. Brandon was unable to accept the award in person, but was very excited to be awarded this prestigious award.
