Colfax Health and Rehab – 6-10-2013

The first week in June and we are doing our best to stay dry. The rain has been copious, with few opportunities to go out-of-doors. The weather did grant us a fair afternoon on Monday. Residents enjoyed a social time in the courtyard. Root beer floats and conversation made the afternoon pleasant.

On Tuesday we had devotions, reading group and exercise. The annual Kindergarten picnic was held indoors this year because of rain. Ordinarily we have it in the courtyard. This year the 75 children and their teachers had a picnic in the south dining room. After the meal the tables and chairs were all moved and Carrie Christianson somehow had the giggly children lined up in rows. The residents sat on one side of the room. The children prepared for their performance. The songs were delightful, animated and amusing. The afternoon Bingo games were well attended. Veda was here to help. Happy Hour was “Happy” as residents sipped on their favorite beverage and munched a chip or two.

On Wednesday morning church service was led by Pastor Mike Wollman from Shepard of the Hill Lutheran Church in Elk Mound. Delores Huber was our ever faithful pianist. Linnea was here to assist residents who needed help with their books. The REX Class was full of residents eager to keep in shape. At 2 p.m. the south dining room was filled with residents and some family members. Magic Mary “AKA” Mary Faerber entertained us with her music. She is a charming lady who has no problem getting the residents to interact with her music. River Boat Randy was here after supper and played the guitar in the Unit and later in the North dining room. He comes to entertain every other week and the residents look forward to every performance.

On Thursday morning we had Mass for our Catholic residents at 10 am. The volleyball players played a fun game in the North dining room. At 2pm you could find residents in the activity area working on their velvet paintings. They were a beautiful sight with bright colors on black velvet.

On Friday morning Loretta led rosary in the activity lounge. Glen led the Gospel sing in the south dining room with Delores accompanying him on the piano. Glen’s deep vocals are a pleasure to hear. In the afternoon residents came back to the south dining room for Dime Bingo. Veda and Merle were here to help.

Saturday Shannon led the Hollywood game and played cards with many of the residents. Residents would like to thank Leona Ubbelohde for her weekly visits and all of you who make the week special by volunteering your valuable time and talents. We had another busy week here in the land of Colfax where the men are strong and the women are good looking. And! We will need you strong men and good looking women in 49 days when we move into our new building on August 1!
