Sand Creek Chatter – 5-29-2013

The Sand Creek Pipers 4-H members placed 95 flags on Veterans’ graves at the 3 local cemeteries including: Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, the Zion Lutheran cemetery and the Myron Cemetery. They accomplished all this on Thursday evening, of May 23.

The Sand Creek Arts hosted a Memorial Day Brunch at the Olde School, which gave a fine opportunity for families coming for the services to visit and be together socially.

Mark Gilberts of Mundelien, Illinois spent the weekend of May 10 to May 12 with his dad, Snort Gilberts as well as his sister, Cindy Gilberts.

Dale and Susan Paulson entertained family members for dinner on Mother’s Day including: Sue’s mother, Torchy Schaller, sister, Cindy Schaller, son, Eric Paulson, Ben and Sara Knepper and Eddie, Roger Paulson, Joseph and Lois Moore. They also celebrated Sara’s birthday.

Paul and LouAnn Gilberts hosted all of their family for dinner on Mother’s Day including: Kelly and Clayton Timm, Alex, Maggie and Adam, Krista and Jimmy Mars, Sam and Taylor, Scott and Amy Gilberts, also LouAnn’s cousin, Judi McCullum and Arloa Anderson who were overnight guests until Monday, May 20.

Joseph and Lois Moore have returned to the area after spending the winter months in Oregon.

Tom and Caryl Schoen went to Duluth on Friday evening of May 17 to celebrate with a family dinner for their granddaughter, Alyx Teske who was going to graduate from UMD the next day, Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m. All the family did attend the ceremony on Saturday.

The Schoens had a full weekend as Tom and Caryl went to Faith Covenant church in Burnsville, MN for their grandson Jake’s confirmation on Sunday morning of May 19 followed by a family dinner at the home of Dawn and Jeff Teske.

Sandy Anderson went to Mpls. on Thursday, May 16 and picked up Sharon Hegna to drive to Duluth for the wedding reception of Ryan Hanson (grandson of the late Torphin Hanson). They visited Larry Hanson’s son, Scott Hanson and his family. From there, they drove to Barnes, Wis. To spend the evening with Eunice Dewey and Larry Hanson. All 4 are “first cousins” .

On Sunday morning of May 19, they drove to Mpls. and picked up Sandy’s sister, Mavis Anderson. She had been in Mpls. for her 50th Class Reunion from the Swedish Hospital Nursing School. She then returned with Sandy to Sand Creek.

Carol Anderson hosted an evening dinner on Sunday evening of May 19 for family members: Mavis Anderson, Sandy Anderson, Glenn and Margie Anderson, Harlan and Lana Anderson and Bob and Mary Hanson.

The Martha and Mary Mission Group of Independent Bible Church met on Wednesday, May 22 at the Chapel for their monthly meeting.

Herb and Doris Tallman returned to Wisconsin on Monday, May 20, after traveling East to visit Herb’s family, which was approximately 3000 miles. They traveled to Waynesboro, Virginia, visiting 3 daughters and their families. They drove up along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Doris and Herb and a daughter did some hiking. They also went to Virginia Beach and took in some historical sites including Richmond, Virginia. Enroute home, they detoured through Bettendorf, Iowa and visited son, Mark and Ami Dietsch and daughter, Madison. Herb helped Mark build an office during his stay in Iowa. Some of the family members came to Sand Creek for the Memorial weekend to visit cemeteries.

Sue Piotrowski, Nancy Erickon, Elaine Toycen and Swanee Rasmussen had supper together at the Blue Moose in Bloomer on May 23 in celebration of Nancy Erickson’s birthday.

Louie and Judy Reetz attended an 8th grade graduation at Elmwood for granddaughter, Addysen Welch on May 24

Rocky Thompson of Minocqua, came to visit his mother, Sue Piotrowski on Sunday, May 26th and stayed until Tuesday, May 28.
