Elk Mound boys win regional, girls place third
RICE LAKE — For the second straight year, the Elk Mound boys’ track and field team came home with a regional championship, this time by 25 points over Fall Creek at the Rice Lake regional May 20.
Under sunny skies with temperatures in the high 70s, the Mounders advanced several athletes to the sectional meet in Bloomer May 23 by placing in the top four of their events. Top eight places scored team points in the meet. Elly Friberg and Andie Friberg were both triple winners for the girls. Elly earned the top spot in the high jump (5-00) the long jump (15-10) and ran a leg of the 4 X 100 relay with older sister Andie, Waive Melgaard and McKenna McVey (52.41). Andie won the pole vault ( 9-06) and the 100 m dash (14.02), Alyssa Buros won the shot put (36-09.25), while McVey took the 200 m dash (28.34).
Placing first for the boys were Dakota Tarnow in the 110 hurdles (16.42), Josiah Bauer in the shot put (46-06.75), the 4 X 800 relay with Nate Mack, Andrew Zabel, Mitch Zimmer and Shawn Lane (8:45.98) and the 4 X 200 relay with Jonah Bauer, Ryan Bridges, Jordan Klemp and Zabel (1:34.12).
