Colfax golfers fifth at regional; DeMoe moves on

COLFAX — With the top four teams and top four individuals not on one of those teams moving on to the sectional meet next week, the Colfax golf team fell short of advancing by 15 strokes as they placed fifth in the nine team regional held at Whitetail Golf Course May 22. However, junior Whitney DeMoe, with her score of 89, earned a spot as the fourth individual and will compete in Rice Lake.

DeMoe shot a 40 on the front nine, putting her in a tie for first but  a 49 on the back nine left her tied for 16th overall. Senior Dillon Lloyd had a couple of rough holes and his rounds of 45 and 46 placed him in a tie for 19th with his 91 score. Trevor Seston came in with a 95 after rounds of 49 and 46 for 24th place, Trey Gullickson finished at 96 with his 48 and 48  for 25th place and Grant Phillips was 39th with rounds of 59 and 59. There were 43 golfers in the meet.

“I am proud of our team because they were able to post their best team score of the year,” coach Vince Ross said. “Dillon played well but had a few putts that looked good and just didn’t find the bottom of the cup.”

The Dunn-St. Croix Conference will be well represented at the sectional as Glenwood City placed second behind Grantsburg and Spring Valley was third. Jake Hierlmeier of Glenwood City was the medalist with his score of 79.
