Sand Creek Chatter – 5-22-2013

 A Memorial Tractor Drive was held on Saturday, May 11 in honor of Clarence and Adeline Runkle. The drive began at the farm of Gordy Brechard. Clarence Wicken had the lead tractor with about 15 tractors traveling in the Parade among which was Dick Clemmens. The Parade group returned to the Gordy Brechard farm for a potluck chicken dinner. Comments were that there was sufficient for an army as there was so MUCH good food. Kids’ wagons as well as other wagons traveled in the Parade.

On the morning of Saturday, May 11, the Sand Creek Fire Department “set fire” to the old Home Oil gas station, a memorable piece of history in Sand Creek. It was first operated by Conrad Gilberts and assisted by his brother, Arnold Gilberts. Followed by other familiar names, such as Oscar Hoveland.

Caryl Schoen had ideal spring days at their home in Door County when she joined her sisters there during the week of May 6.

Elaine Toycen went to the Dan Toycen home in Chippewa Falls on Saturday afternoon of May 11 and stayed through Mother’s Day and returned home on Monday morning after Mother’s Day.

George and Delores Vlcek went with Delores’ brother, Gerald and Ruby Stratton to the Thrift Sales in Woodbury, MN on Thursday, May 9.

On May 10, Nathan and Amy Vlcek and son, Hunter and George and Delores Vlcek went to a dance recital entitled “Born for This” at the Harvestime Church in Eau Claire where Moriah and Briahna Vlcek and Georgia Vlcek participated Parents of all three girls were present .

George and Delores Vlcek had a full social week as on Saturday evening of May 11, they attended the Brunswick Firemen’s Dance and enjoyed seeing relatives of the Firemen’s relatives in the Dept.

Best of all, they saw all of their children on Mother’s Day

A long-time friend, Rick Flinn, celebrated his May 10th birthday at the George and Delores Vlcek home on Monday evening of May 13 with Nathan and Amy Vlcek and Hunter joining them.

Becky Schnacky, Tim Berg and his wife, Jean Giebenhain, Julie, Renu, and Susha, Tobias and Renee were all home with Alden and Gert Berg and Jeff on Mother’s Day , May 12.

Lillian Wendlandt went with her daughter, Marian and Michael Brasher to Mpls. to spend the day with Lillian’s granddaughter, Michelle and family on Sunday of Mother’s Day, May 12.

Angela Smith, Stacey Hayes, Lauren and Bailey took their mother, Marie Swanson out to dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Lee and Teresa Killoren, Brody and Bryce hosted Mother’s Day dinner at their home for Kenny and Sharon Nelson, Elizabeth Brenden, Kelly Esterby Nelson, Zoe and Noah. Michael was in the fields that day.

Sue and Jerry Favero came home by car this past week of May 17 when they stopped to visit Phil and Renee Hanson in Omaha, Nebraska and also Dorean Arneson in Colorado Springs, C0 and her daughter, Joanna and family.

Janette Hanson came to visit Avis Hanson on Sunday evening of Mother’s Day.

Avis Hanson had the privilege of attending a dance recital for her granddaughter, Isabella on May 19 along with other family members.

Jean Hanson brought her mother, Marge Gronning, a corsage on Mother’s Day and spent time with Marge at Knapp Haven on Mother’s Day.
