Elk Mound girls wind up regular season play with 4-1 week
After winning a non-conference game against Fall Creek 9-4 May 13, the Elk Mound softball team got ready for regional play with a pair of double headers to finish off the regular season. After splitting with Elmwood-Plum City May 14, winning the first game 3-0 and dropping the second one 7-6, they swept Boyceville 3-1 and 11-1 two days later. The Mounders finished second in the conference at 13-3, one game behind Pepin-Alma. As the number one seed in the regional, they received a bye in the first round and will host Prescott Tuesday, May 21.
Fall Creek
Elk Mound held a 5-2 lead after three innings and added a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh for the win. Kaysi Meindel led the team at the plate with three hits and an RBI while Amanda Ward, Becca Kopp and Katie Johnson all had two hits with Kopp bringing in three runs. One of Ward’s hits was a triple as she picked up an RBI.
Morgan Polden earned the win pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing all four runs on six hits with one walk.

Elmwood-Plum City-Game 1
Single runs in the second, fourth and fifth inning were all the Mounders needed as Dayna Kotecki shut the E-PC batters down and let the defense do their job. Kotecki threw a two hitter with one strikeout and most importantly, no walks for the win. Five different Elk Mound players had one hit and McKenna Borofka, Kopp and Kylynn Simon all picked up an RBI.

Game 2
Playing as the home team, Elk Mound gave up an early run in the first before they erased the deficit with three runs in their half of the inning. E-PC came right back with three more for a 4-3 lead before the Mounders knotted it up in the third. They found themselves in the hole yet again when E-PC scored three times in the fifth and they had a chance to win it but fell a run short in their final at bat.
Katie Bergh finished 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and four RBIs and Kotecki was also 2 for 3. Kotecki absorbed the loss, giving up just four hits but walked five batters while striking out one.

The Bulldogs hung with the Mounders and the game was tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the fourth before Elk Mound came up with a pair of runs then hung on for the win.
Meindel and Bergh were both 2 for 2 in the hitting department and Kopp collected two BIs. Kotecki earned another win on a four hitter with four Ks and one walk.

Game 2
The Mounders took care of business early as they came up with five runs in the top of the first inning and held a 5-1 lead heading into the fourth. They added on two more in the fourth and finished it off with four more in the final inning for the 10 run win. Balanced hitting was again a key as seven different batters combined for nine hits with Kotecki and Simon both pounding out a pair of them. Kotecki and Lizzie Schreiber each had a trio of RBIs and Ward brought two Mounders home. Kotecki threw a two hitter with four strikeouts and no walks to earn yet another win.
