Elk Mound track teams win challenge

BOYCEVILLE — The Elk Mound boys’ track and field team cruised to a win, finishing more than 60 points ahead of the nearest team in the First Annual Dunn-St. Croix-Lakeland Conference Challenge held in Boyceville May 9. The Mounder girls won their end of the meet by a much closer score, finishing three and a half points ahead of Mondovi. Four teams from each conference competed in a steady rainfall throughout the afternoon and early evening.

The girls were led by Andie Friberg with a first in the 200 m dash (29.00), Alyssa Buros won the shot put (35-04.50), the 4 X 100 relay won with Andie Friberg, Elly Friberg, McKenna McVey and Waive Melgaard (54.59) and also the 4 X 200 relay team of MvVey, Moriah Mauer, Melgaard and Abbey Olson (2:02.40).Seconds came from Andie Friberg in the 100 m dash (13.33), Elly Friberg in the high jump (4-08) and long jump (14-02.50), Anne Kendzierski in the discus throw (82-11) and the 4 X 800 relay team of Samantha Jain, Hannah Flatness, Emma Hayes and Danae Sternecker (11:19.94).

Earning points in third place were Mauer in the triple jump (28-11), Kendzierski in the shot put (30-02) and Elly Friberg in the 200 m dash (29.31). Kayla Black placed fourth in the 1600 m run (6:11.03) as did the 4 X 400 relay with Rachel Caron, Katie Gerber, Corrine Zimmer and Mattie Pitts (5:00.60).Caron finished sixth in the 400 m dash (1:11.95) and Jain was also sixth in the 1600 (6:30.31). Emily Finder was seventh in the 1600 (6:44.24) and coming in for eighth place were Zimmer in the 400 (1:14.76) and Alex Hagberg in the long jump (13-02).

Four Mounder boys placed in the 100 m dash including Jonah Bauer, first (11.17), Ryan Bridges, second (11.31), Jordan Klemp, fifth (11.80) and Tyler Deutschlander, seventh (11.99).

Also winning their events were Nate Mack, high jump (5-06), Josiah Bauer, shot put (46-03.50), Dakota Tarnow, 110 hurdles (15.88), the 4 X 100 relay with Jonah Bauer, Yeng Her, Deutschlander and Klemp (46.78) and the 4 X 200 relay consisting of Jonah Bauer, Bridges, Klemp and Andrew Zabel (1:36.49).

Seconds came from Jon Adank in the triple jump (37-06.50) and Shawn Lane in the 800 (2-14.64), while several thirds were earned including Gabe Anderson, discus (105-07.50), Adank in the high jump (5-02), Bridges in the shot put (36-03.50) and 200 (24.22), Mitch Zimmer in the 800 (2:14.65 and the 4 X 800 relay with Ben Holzwarth, Lucas Winter, Caleb Kruger and Drew Sternecker (9:33.81). Winter was fourth in the 3200 (12:01.86) and the 4 X 400 relay was also fourth with Hunter Alexander, RJ Cheek, Dakota Peters and Sternecker (4:03.26).

Coming in fifth were Travis Nelson, long jump (17-07.50), Deutschlander, 200 (25.31), Mack, 400 (56.93) and Nevin Melgaard, 110 hurdles (18.79).Justin Fedie earned a sixth in the 1600 (5:18.17) and Adam Gottschalk was seventh in the 300 hurdles (50.38). Final point scorers for the Mounders were Anderson in eighth in the shot put (33-05.50) and also in eighth was Alexander in the 400 (59.79).
