Colfax Health and Rehab – 5-15-2013

Spring seems to have appeared in Western Wisconsin at last! Residents have been able to go outside and soak up some sun. Windows can be opened and all of winter’s stale air can be exchanged for the fresh sweet smell of spring.

On Sunday the Church service from Grace Lutheran Church was broadcast in the morning. The regular REX Classes at 1 and 6 were very well attended. Leona Ubbelhode and family visits made the weekend pleasant.

On Monday morning we had devotions, reading group and exercise. Sue Hill led the group. Sue’s humor and innovative ideas are a welcome addition to the activity department. In the afternoon we celebrated Cinco de Mayo (Sunday was the day the rest of the world celebrated). We played Wheel of Fortune and made strawberry margaritas. The residents all wore Mexican sombreros. We learned about the Mexican culture and had fun to boot.

On Tuesday morning there was devotions, reading, and exercise in the resident lounge. The lounge is a small and intimate area where residents can socialize, exercise, and gather for REX. Bingo was the afternoon event. Coffee and cookies were served after Bingo. Happy Hour opened at 3:30.

On Wednesday morning Pastor Hall Schroetter from Barum and Big Elk Creek churches in Elk Mound led the service. Delores Huber was our pianist. Linnea Thompson was here to help were needed. Wednesday afternoon residents gathered in the south dining room for a Memorial Service to remember the dear residents who had passed away during the last year.  In the evening River Boat Randy entertained residents at 5:30 and at 6:30. Randy’s program involves resident participation.

On Thursday morning Father Joseph Nakwah and Dewey Brunner from St. Joseph Parishes in Elk Mound and Rock Falls had Mass for our Catholic Residents. Later many ladies gathered in the dining room and had “Girl Talk”. Thursday afternoon the Music Program was very special with Lenore Berg on the piano, Chuck Kirkwood playing his trumpet and Ed Thompson was on tuba. They have been playing together for several years. Their music always has the residents and their families in a festive mood.

On Friday morning Glen and Julie led a Gospel Sing. Deloris accompanied them on the piano. Linnea was here today to help transport residents. Merle was here in the afternoon to call the Bingo Game. The Dime Bingo drew a crowd and everyone went away with a jingle in their pocket.

On Saturday Shannon had many residents around the table when she hosted a “Hollywood Card Game”. It is a busy time for everyone in the spring getting things in order for summer. We too are getting preparations ready for summer. We will be moving into our new facility August 1st. Please put the day on your calendar if you can be any help. For more information call Laura at 715-962-3186. It is going to be a fun Colfax Community Pride Day. That’s about it for this week here in the land of Colfax where the snow is gone and the grass is getting green.
