Colfax tracksters place high at Viking Invite
COLFAX — Hosting their own meet, the Colfax girls track and field team finished second in the 13 team field at the Viking Invitational held May 7 while the boys’ team placed third out of 15 teams. The meet was held under sunny skies and started with temperatures in the high 70s, then gradually cooled down, making it rather pleasant conditions for the competitors and the fans.
The Vikings’ Garrett Miller continues to dominate the 400 m dash, winning it by one second over the runner up from Menomonie while the 4 X 800 relay team with Matthew Almquist, Tucker Hovde, Michael Larson and Lachlan Hinwood streaked to another win with a personal best time, finishing nine seconds faster than the team from Elmwood-Plum City. Heidi Lieffort set her own personal record by 20 feet in winning the discus to lead the girls team while the 4 X 800 relay also bettered their seed time by 20 seconds with Dannielle Dachel, Dempsey Fogarty, Ryleigh Prochnow and Brittany Rothbauer doing the running.
Division 1 team Menomonie, a late entry to the meet, won both the boys and girls titles. Each team was allowed only two entries per event and the top eight places tallied points for the team. Listed are Colfax athletes with place and time/distance for the meet. Personal records according to their seed time are indicated by (pr).
