Colfax baseball team picks up first win

EAU CLAIRE — Coming off a five inning, 10 run loss to Durand to open their season the Vikings bounced back to take a 9-6 win over Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran in a game played at Carson Park April 29. A double header against Elk Mound slated for May 2 was snowed out.

Colfax took a 1-0 lead in the first when Michael Hover scored on the first of three hits by Ethin Kiekhafer. The Lancers answered with two in their half of the inning before the Vikings added three in the second – all with two outs–as Logan Mittelstadt, Jeremiah Wait and Nate Liebried all crossed the plate. Colfax added four runs in the fourth as Mittelstadt and Wait drew walks, Hover singled to bring in a run, Austin Lee reached on an error and Kiekhafer knocked in two runs with a single for a 8-2 lead. The Lancers came right back with four runs of their own however, but Hover came in to relieve Kiekhafer on the mound and put an end to the scoring.

The Vikings tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Nate Liebfried doubled and came home on a two base hit by Lee. Sawyer DeMoe finished on the mound, striking out the final two batters which were the only two he faced.

Kiekhafer earned the win, going 3 1/3 innings, allowing six runs with four hits, two strikeouts and five walks, Hover went three innings and whiffed eight Lancers, walked two and gave up one hit.

Liebfried batted 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored twice, Kiekhafer was 3 for 4 with three RBI, Hover knocked in two runs and Lee picked up an RBI.
