Boyceville High School Salutatorian: Matthew Wathke

BOYCEVILLE — The Salutatorian of the Class of 2013 at Boyceville High School is Matthew Wathke.

Matthew is the son of Paul and Julie Wathke.

Matthew has been an active student during his high school career between sports and various extra curricular clubs.

He shared one of his favorite memories was this past football season.

“Defeating Elk Mound in football and securing our place in the playoffs. The fact that we succeeded as a team against all odds is what makes it so memorable to me and that it was a fun game to play,” he said.

His most memorable moment high school moment was last spring during his junior prom.

“We worked the entire week, pouring all our spare time into the preparation and then to see it all come together, a theme and accomplishment that we could be proud of made that one night all the more special,” shared Matthew.

Outside of school, Matthew’s favorite memories were spent with friends, having a great time together and doing a little target shooting.

In the community, he was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and volunteered at his church serving meals.

Back in school, Matthew was involved in Science Olympiad, where he won several medals and he was a member of the National Honor Society.

In the classroom, Matthew’s favorite classes were Chemistry, Contemporary American History and AP Environmental Sciences.

“They were all challenging classes, but they were ones that kept me interested because I enjoyed the subject,” he said.

His interest in science has led him down the path of becoming a future Badger as he plans to enroll at the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall and pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering.
