Scholarships, book, quilt awarded at HCE Spring Council meeting
BALDWIN, WI — Two high school seniors each received a scholarship for $750 at the St Croix County HCE (Home Community Education) Association Spring Council meeting on April 19.
Applicants must be children or grandchildren of a St. Croix County HCE member. Natalie Sortedahl of Woodville, granddaughter of Melodee Sortedahl, received the Rural School book & Creamery Book HCE Scholarship as well as a copy of the Rural School Book published by the county HCE. Luke Krueger of Deer Park, son of Janet Krueger and grandson of Elaine Solum, received the HCE Scholarship. The Rural School Book and Creamery Book are for sale at the Ag Center in Baldwin and at the HCE Building during the St. Croix County Fair and orders taken at the HCE booth at Farm City Day. Sales of these books help fund the scholarships.
A Passage Quilt was assembled and sewn by HCE members of St. Croix County and then presented to Gloria Fern representing Adoray.
The Honey Doers HCE Club hosted the council meeting held at Woodside Place, 2053 County Road N; Baldwin. June Lindquist, who owns the former church with her husband, gave a history and tours of the church building. They rent it out for weddings, funerals, class reunions, and other events.
Wendy Kramer, RN from Baldwin, gave a presentation on Women’s Health. Bev Mitchell showed collage paper painting she has done and explained how to do it. A session will be held October 5 at the Ag Center in Baldwin from 9:00 am to noon for those interested in learning this craft.
Members honored for 70 years: Evelyn Peterson; 50 years: Vivian Wildasin, Barb Zimmerman; and 25 years: Bonnie Eastvold, Deb Lyons, Diane Kinney, and Janet O’Connell.
Cultural Arts entries were judged by the members and awarded ribbons. Winning items will be displayed at the St. Croix County Fair in July and also taken to the State HCE convention in Manitowoc in September.
