Pig Connect website brings together farmers who deal in pigs

If you’re a pig farmer, a new website developed by University of Wisconsin-Extension, Cooperative Extension’s Swine Team can be your resource to finding animals or items you need.

“Pig Connect is an electronic neighborhood bulletin board where farmers can post information about equipment, show pigs, semen, breeding stock and housing related to swine,” said Zen Miller, UW-Extension, Cooperative Extension Swine Team Leader.

He noted that there is a need for this service because in Wisconsin most farm supply stores don’t cater to pork producers.

Pig Connect is free of charge for both buyers and sellers. Users can search by region, item for sale or wanted, or sites for rent. All transactions and negotiations are handled directly between buyer and seller. Factsheets and industry links are also posted on the website.

Buyers and sellers can access the website immediately by going to http://pigconnect.uwex.edu.

Miller said, “Because the site is new, there are only a few items currently listed. However, as we get the word out about the site and interest grows, more items will be added.”
