Lady Mounders open season with win over Mustangs

ST. PAUL, MN — The Elk Mound softball team didn’t let a little thing like wet fields stop them from opening their season as they traveled to Minnesota and played a game in the new dome in West St. Paul April 4.

Taking advantage of the warm and dry conditions, the Mounders beat a team from close to home, that being the Menomonie Mustangs, by a score of 6-4 as Becca Kopp ended her first game with a batting average of .1000, going 4 for 4. Kopp slammed a triple, two doubles and a single for eight total bases, and Katie Bergh brought in a pair of runs going 2 for 3 at the plate. Maddy Polden also picked up two RBI and Dayna Kotecki finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and earned the win from the mound, striking out four Mustangs and walking three.

Menomonie is being coached this year by longtime football coach Joe LaBuda.
