Sand Creek Chatter – 3-13-2013
On March 1-3, Doug and Becky Westholm, Derek, Benjamin and Danielle traveled to Wausau to attend the 2013 Wisconsin High School Bowling Club State Tournament. Brandon Westholm is part of the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser bowling team, which competed at the state tournament.
The team had a fantastic weekend, and after 15 games on Saturday, found themselves in 2nd place in Division 2, qualifying them for the televised finals on Sunday. On Sunday, the Bulldogs defeated the team from Port Washington, 435-383 in a two-game match. This sent the Bulldogs to the championship match with Cambridge, the day one leaders. In a very exciting match, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser came up a single pin short, losing the match 422-421. The Bulldogs finish their season with a 2nd place finish at the state tournament in Division 2, after winning both the regular season and tournament in District 10.
On March 1st and 2nd, Dave and Tracey Cowley, Trey, Reese and Brooks of Black River Falls came to Sand Creek and stayed overnight with Louie and Judy Reetz. On Saturday, Ben and Stephanie Moerke, Nathan and Josh joined the families for noon lunch.
On Thursday, March 7, Judy Reetz accompanied her daughter, Janelle and husband, Jeff Wolf and children, Addison, Braden and Mason to Madison to watch the Elmwood boys play basketball. Judy spent two days with her son, John Welch and family in Madison
Judy Horn took Carol Squires to the Eau Claire airport on March 6 where she went on to the Chicago airport and then to Pittsburgh where she drove her car on “bare roads” all the way home to Friendsville, MD. She was grateful for a safe journey after a happy two-week visit with her mother in Sand Creek.
Former Sand Creek resident, Gerald Madison, celebrated his 93rd birthday at The Maplewood in Bloomer on March 6 with Homer and Diana Madison providing birthday cake.
Susan Carlson visited her mother, Avis Hanson on Friday afternoon.
Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of June Seever, whose funeral service will be held on March 18 at the Methodist church in Chetek.
Billy Messenger and Jacob Messenger and their dad, Bill Messenger, Sr. of Excelsior, MN came last Friday to visit their grandmother, Joanie Williams at Morningside Apts. until March 10.
Kayla Hoffman was a Saturday overnight visitor of her grandmother, Lois Aasen.
Espen Grindhaug of Oslo, Norway, who was an exchange student of Barry and Floy Ann Lofthus in 2005, arrived at the Lofthus home on March 2 and stayed until March 7.
George and Delores Vlcek attended the wedding of their niece, Amanda Stratton to Daniel Sullivan held at Messiah Lutheran church in Eau Claire for an eleven o’clock ceremony followed by a reception on March 9.
Doris and Herb Tallman went over to Medford on Friday to visit Joanie and Dean Lindau.
On Saturday, the Tallmans attended the volleyball tournament in Eau Claire where their granddaughter, McKensie Dietsche, participated. Joanie and Dean joined them.
Tessa Gustum and Sam Gustum celebrated their birthdays with their family on March 9.
Becky Loftus went out to eat with her mom, Rose, her husband, Jerry and son, Lance and daughter, Lacey on March 3 in celebration of her March 4th birthday.
Lacey Loftus was inducted as a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society on March 6. She also is on the Dean’s List of Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire. Congratulations to Lacey in her achievements.
Cindy Gilberts took her dad, Snort Gilberts, to Dr. Lang, his eye doctor in Eau Claire on March 7.
Nancy Erickson attended a Writer’s Retreat from March 6 to March 10 at St. Anthony’s Retreat Center located in Marathon City, WI. This Retreat Center dates back to the 1800s and is operated by Capuchin Monks. Capuchin Monasteries can be found in several parts of the world. This order of monks live as simply as possible and offer hospitality to weary and seeking sojourners.
