Colfax Health and Rehab – 3-6-2013
We had a wonderful week. The promise of spring was in the air with warmer weather and snow melting. The weather man reported our average was 34 and we hovered around that temperature, not anxious to break any records – especially the record low that was 32 BELOW. Leona Ubbelhode visited with her comforting and pleasant conversation. The Grace Lutheran Church broadcast of their Sunday services was on the radio and on the television. Many people like their Sundays to include a church service. The REX Classes at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. were well attended. These classes are available for residents every day of the week.
On Monday morning after a good hardy breakfast, residents came to the residents’ lounge for devotions and reading and some exercise. Sue Hill and Veda were here in the afternoon to help with our Monthly Resident Auction. Many people carried armloads of items as they returned to their rooms.
On Tuesday we had devotions and reading and exercise. Cathy reads the news and highlights the articles to help residents keep up on what is happening in our community. In the afternoon the Bingo Hall was filled again with residents and family members that come to play. Happy Hour follows bingo and many people enjoy the social aspects, the music and the beverage of choice. Veda was here helping and we appreciate her time and talents.
Wednesday morning was our weekly church service. This week Pastor Wollman led the service. Delores Huber was our pianist. Linnea helped transport residents to and from the service. We had a lunch inning after church. This month’s lunch inning was held at Mel’s Diner. The chicken dinners were purchased from Cenex, complete with cole slaw, mashed potatoes, corn and rolls. Mel’s famous chocolate cream pie was served for dessert. Next month Mel’s Diner is featuring a Friday fish fry for the residents. Wednesday afternoon we were entertained by Rich Schroeder and his melodious music. Rich usually stays after his performance to visit with his audience. In the evening River Boat Randy entertained on the unit and then after supper in the north dining room.
On Thursday Mel’s Diner opened at 11:30 and chicken dinner was on the menu again. The enclosed picture is the Thursday diners enjoying their meals. Well done Mel! Thursday afternoon we had our monthly resident council meeting. Jill showed pictures from inside the new building, which is on schedule and should open August 1st. We are all very excited to hear of its progress.
Friday morning Loretta led Rosary for our Catholic residents and Julie and Delores Huber came for gospel sing. Delores played the piano and Julie played the flute. Linnea and Veda were here to set up the room and help residents. Thank you all for your time and continued support to our residents. In the afternoon we played Dime bingo. The vending cart was offered to residents that wanted to purchase any treats for the weekend. Shannon was here on the weekend to play Hollywood (a Card Game) and visit and read to residents who needed some extra attention. That is what Shannon provides so well. Yes we were busy all week, but not too busy to let you know what we did here in the land of Colfax, where the men are charming and the women like to be charmed.
