Colfax team places in local robotics competition

MENOMONIE — A team of Colfax youth took second place at the recent Lego Robot Sumo Competition held in Menomonie on February 16th.  Devin Lamm and Tate Russell, both sixth graders from Colfax Elementary, competed in the junior division making it to finals after three rounds of competition.

This is the third year Menomonie Robotics for Kids has hosted the competition.  Entrants meet early in the morning to begin assembling their robots. Once the completed robots have been weighed and measured, teams then program them for an afternoon of competition.

Robots have two minutes to push their competitors out of a designated ring.  Winners and runner ups were determined in the both junior and senior divisions, receiving Lego kits as prizes.  Besides Lamm and Russell, a second team of Colfax sixth graders competed as well.  That team was comprised of Brett Foyt and Tanner Niererhausen.  A total of 20 teams were part of the competition.
