Colfax Health and Rehab Center – 2-27-2013

There are only 20 days until Spring (on the calendar), but looking out the window one would not know how that can be true. We could all THINK Spring? That is what we are doing here at Colfax Health and Rehab. Residents are so looking forward to getting out side for fresh air and sunshine.

On Monday and Tuesday mornings we had Devotions, Reading and Exercise. These get-togethers strengthen our spiritual beliefs, our minds, and our bodies. Monday afternoon we had a memorial program for Bill Olson. Bill passed away in October of 2012. His son David and David’s wife Karin showed a movie to the residents that spanned the life of Bill. It was a celebration of life DVD that Karin produced. Coffee and treats were served after the program. Tuesday after noon the Bingo players and many family members gathered in the North dining room. Cathy, Ashley and Veda kept the prizes going. After the tension and anticipation of winning, we served coffee, treats, chips, and mixed drinks to wind down the afternoon with Happy Hour.

On Wednesday morning Pastor Jason Taylor from Otter Creek Christian Fellowship Church led the Church service and communion was served. Linnea helped us with the residents. We are so Blessed to have the support from the local Ministers who come every Wednesday for our church services and for the volunteers who help make the day more pleasant for residents. Wednesday afternoon the Beauty Boutique was open. Manicures and pampering for both men and women are offered every other week. The photo this week is of two ladies who are examples of the Beauty in Beauty Boutique.

On Thursday morning the volleyball players gathered in the north dining room and had a rousing game. Blue 15, Red 14! In the afternoon we were entertained by Mary Farber and her delightful music program. We like to call her Magic Mary! Veda was here to help residents where needed. Taek came from Menomonie and did special hand and nail care. She always comes to volunteer with a smile and leaves many smiles when she returns home.

On Friday morning it looked like God was using Colfax as the centerpiece for his “Snow Globe”. It was beautiful and fluffy. Our maintenance men Dick and Matt love to play in the snow. Loretta led Rosary for our Catholic residents. Glen and Julie led the Gospel sing in the morning. Delores Huber played the piano for the gospel sing and for the Wednesday Church service. Veda and Linnea were here to help residents with their song books. In the afternoon we had Dime Bingo.

On Saturday afternoon the residents enjoyed the “Hollywood Game” with Shannon. Sunday Leona Ubbelohde spread her kindness and cheerfulness among the residents. They all look forward to her visits. Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire broadcasts their Sunday service on the TV. Many residents take advantage of this program.

Those are a few of the highlights this week here in the land of Colfax, where the men are strong and the women are good-looking.
