Simonson advances to sectional

Colfax freshman Brady Simonson won’t end his wrestling season yet as he won the 113 pound championship at the St. Croix Central Division 2 Regional meet Feb. 9. Simonson, representing Bloomer-Colfax was the only one to advance to the sectional meet from the team.

He received a bye in the first round, won his second match 5-3 and took the title match 7-0 over Eric Nedland of Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe. He is the first Colfax wrestler to win a regional crown since Travis Anderson did it in 1993. (Anderson went on to win the sectional and place third at state).

As a team, B-C was fifth in a field of six teams as Justin Wachtendonk was third at 106 pounds and Stephen Snyder was also third at 220 pounds. Fourth place finishes came from Robby Rands (138) and Ben Klatt (160) while Dan Thorgerson was fifth (152) and Jon Thorgerson placed sixth (145).

Simonson will move on to the sectional meet Feb. 16 at Somerset.
