Sympathy is extended to the family of Kenneth Saastad, 84, who passed away at the Dallas Care Center on January 31, 2013 with funeral services at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer on February 2, 2013.

Sand Creek’s Library upcoming events: Feb. 1 – 13th Annual make-your-own valentine card at the library. All materials provided. Enter “I love my library” Valentine’s Day card contest and you might win a chocolate treat. Voting held Feb. 13th (judge Mary Mikula, Sand Creek’s postmaster) 2 prizes available – One for best Valentine by an adult and one for best valentine by a child.

Saturday, Feb. 9th Noon – 2 at the Old School: Wintertime craft: Paint a ceramic snowflake ornament/magnet and have a fun theme-inspired snack!

Avis Hanson hosted an after-Christmas party in the Morningside Lounge last Saturday for those who couldn’t come on Christmas Eve.

Those present were: Susan and Rich Carlson, Michael Edington and Angelo, Peter Hanson and Wyatt, Isabella and Avis, the hostess.

Lois Aasen attended the funeral for David Smestuen held at Christ of the King Lutheran church in Wilson this past week.

Pat McClure of Fairbanks, Alaska, is in the area visiting family and friends.

Daryl and Gwen Bonderman celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the Sand Creek Senior Center on Feb. 2 hosted by their children including daughter, Deanne and Steven Popp and their granddaughters, Alicia and Travis Shimmel, Tishara and Titue Worsley and grandson, Quentin Popp.

An Open House was held for Joyce Goodremote at the Office of The Chetek Alert on January 30th. Joyce will truly be missed.

Caryl Schoen took Swanhild Rasmussen to an eye specialist at the Marshfield Clinic in Eau Claire on Jan. 30th after which they visited Delores Krahn and had birthday cake and coffee together as both Delores and Swanee had recent January birthdays.

Joanie Williams attended the visitation for Kenneth Saastad held at the Bloomer Funeral Home in Bloomer on Feb. 2.

Sean and Megan Rae celebrated their 17th birthdays on January 29 with a family birthday dinner at home.

John Anderson and his children, Tyler and Haley of Peoria, Illinois arrived at the home of Glenn and Margie Anderson on January 31 to spend a week here.

Mary and Ron Keller of Hopkins, MN and Ashley Keller of Hudson spent last weekend with Mae Sparby.

Mae Sparby had an interesting e-mail from her son. Pastor Michael Sparby and his pastor friend, John Bjorge who are leading a tour together in the Holy Land. First they landed in Amman, Jordan and crossed over into Israel where they were located on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Tom and Caryl Schoen attended a comedy play in the Twin Cities entitled “The Perfect Wedding” last Thursday, January 31.

Toby and Judy Horn drove over to Woodbury last Saturday, to watch their grandson, Jonathan, play basketball and also to celebrate Judy’s birthday

Michael and Kelly Nelson, Zoe and Noah, went to Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells on January 30 and stayed until Friday evening while Michael attended the Corn-Soybean Expo and the family enjoyed the Water Park.

Sand Creek Arts has an upcoming event on Sat. March 2 at 6:30 pm—Blue Grass Jam in the Grace Room. Local pickers, strummers, pluckers and singers come together to enjoy the music and each other and we all get to listen. No admission; free will donation for refreshments to support the jams and the music.
