Sand Creek Chatter – 1-30-2013
Naomi Hartmann from Chandler, Arizona, was home to visit her dad, Gerhard Nyhus, She arrived on January 11 and stayed until Monday, January 14.
The Sand Creek Pipers 4-H met on Sunday, the 20th. They voted to contribute $50.00 to the campaign begun by Chippewa County Clubs to assist clubs devastated by Hurricane Sandy. This was to have been the Piper outdoor sledding party but the sub-zero weather caused a change of plan. They enjoyed rounds Left-Right-Center and a tasty lunch furnished by the Killorens.
Steve and Brenda Gustum have a new grandson, Sy Isaac Munoz, born to their daughter, Leanna and her husband, Fernandez Munoz on January 17, 2013 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. He weighed in at 6 lbs. and 10 oz.
The Martha and Mary Mission Group of Independent Bible Church met at the Chapel on Wednesday afternoon of January 23 at 2 p.m. for a Bible Study when Tessa Gustum played a violin solo accompanied by Abigail Gustum. The group enjoyed a tasty lunch with barbecue buns furnished by Judy Horn and a special cake made by Sue Mares in honor of her mother, Carol Gustum’s birthday.
All of Carol Gustum’s family helped her celebrate her birthday last Tuesday, January 22. Sue Mares stopped to be with her mother in the afternoon and then Connie Cruse brought her a bouquet of flowers. Steve and Brenda Gustum came to celebrate later. Tom and Sue Gustum and their family came over later in the evening for more celebrating.
The past week found volunteers busy at the Olde School. Dave and Roxi Janecke and Sandy Timm finished painting the ceiling in the lobby. The rehab project is moving right along under the leadership of Bob LaFevere. Arts Board members hope the new look will compensate for the inconvenience, noise and disruption caused by the work. Costs are being covered by community contributions.
Plan ahead to attend the Bluegrass music groups coming to Sand Creek on the first Saturday evening in February on February 2 from 6:30 p.m. and on at the Grace Nyhus Community Room at the Olde School.
Charlene Pagaenkopf, Lou Ann Krueger, and Judy Horn had supper at the home of Carol Ebling in Colfax on January 23rd. The girls were high school classmates. The get-together was for Judy Horn’s birthday on the 24th and Charlene’s on the 29th of January.
Coming up on Monday evening of February 4th, the Senior Citizen’s Group will meet at the Senior Center for supper at 5:30 pm with Carol Anderson telling of her travels in Europe. She taught English in Slovaki for four years. Bring a dish to pass.
Toby and Judy Horn enjoyed the 35th performance of “Cabaret” at the UW-Eau Claire new Davies Center on Saturday afternoon of January 26th. The theme for Cabaret this year was “School Days”.
Judy Reetz went to Spring Valley last Saturday, Jan. 26 to watch her granddaughter, Addy Welch, an 8th grader at Elmwood whose team played basketball in the tournament at Spring Valley and Elmwood took first place.
Following the game, Judy Reetz visited her sister, Audrey Trissel, a resident at the Plum City Care Center, before returning home to Sand Creek.
Susan Carlson of Chippewa Falls and her son, Michael Edington and daughter, Isabella came to Sand Creek on Sunday and took Avis Hanson to the Sand Creek Café for dinner.
