In the story published in the Colfax Messenger January 16 about the fire at St. John Lutheran Church (Popple Creek) in which it was reported that Tom Best of Colfax had discovered the fire after noticing something amiss about the church, backing up to check it out, and then driving down the road to find a cellular signal to call 911, it was mentioned that Best had been driving home at halftime of the Packer game.
The story also mentioned that Best had not had an opportunity to watch the rest of the Packer game.
Best did not intend — nor did the Colfax Messenger interpret it or intend to convey — that Best was more interested in watching the Packer game than he was in the fact that the church was on fire and burned to the ground.
The Messenger regrets the error.
