Glenwood City Band program recently awarded two grants
The Glenwood City band program recently got great news that they were selected to receive two grants for the 2012-13 school year.
The first grant was for $4,419.00 for the purchase of three new euphoniums from the St. Croix Valley Foundation. An anonymous donor has established an endowed field of interest fund for the support of music education in the St. Croix region. By the donor’s wishes, the earnings from this fund will be used to enhance the quality of music education programs in schools located in the St. Croix Valley, including Washington and Chisago Counties in Minnesota and Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties in Wisconsin. Music educator Mr. Lamb wrote the grant in September. He stated, “The euphonium (baritone) is a key instrument to our low brass section. The new purchase nearly doubles our inventory. We are very grateful to the foundation for this financial support.”
The second grant was two new polka band arrangements awarded to the band program from the musical group “Dorf Kappelle”. Capturing the traditional ethnic style of the typical European Village Band, Dorf Kapelle has thrilled audiences at major festivals, stage performances, dances and concerts throughout Wisconsin. Formed in the summer of 1988, this group of fine musicians is dedicated to the reproduction of European wind music which includes polkas, marches, waltzes and specialty selections performed in the ethnic style of its origin.
